Panthers FO to hold press conference on Draft live tomorrow at Noon

If the Panthers draft Cam, it is clear they do not agree with your 3 year time frame.

I see him getting snaps early this year, and becoming the starter sometime after mid-season.

Who knows what Smith would think of that scenario?

Smith is going to think the same thing he thought last year. Another year wasted in one of the precious few I have left.

I agree

.

No team is going to draft a QB #1 overall and put him on a 3 yr plan to see the field.

No team is going to draft a QB in the 1st round and put him on the 3 yr plan if they don't have a Pro Bowl caliber QB starting.

yep yep, but the reality is that Cam, if he lives up to what he should be, is going to take until his 3rd year before he at least is ready for reading defenses without second guessing and so and so forth (dont want to go down the check list but you follow what im saying).

Cam may be closer to reaching his potential in year 3....but he will ready to see the field before then.

Look at The Golden Calf of Bristol this year in his starts and action.....people said it would be years before he could attempt to function as a QB. In his starts he was just as effective as any rookie that played

Hypothetically, if drafting Cam meant Smitty stays and drafting Dareus means he leaves, I may have to sway towards Cam. If Smitty leaves I will have gone from 10 wearable jerseys at 1 point to just 1. Beason alternate with captain patch is still pretty cool though, I just don't want to have to buy another damn jersey right now.

sorry if I wasnt clear about this, BJ, but Im not making statements based on what I think should happen or what I want to happen. Im simply saying that, the vets who play for the Panthers, likely dont want Newton since it will take him awhile to mature as a player. Now Lafell and Gettis I could see wanting Newton, but not the vets.

That could be true.

Have we even had him in for a visit? If you want to replace Smith you don't bring in a rookie, you bring in free agent veteran. With Smith's 7 million to play with, you can get somebody better than a rookie.

No, but we went to a private workout-as I understand it.

I think by midseason he will know enough to play in this league. Will he have mastered the offense or become proficient at reading defenses? No. But there are a lot of quarterbacks starting in this league who are still in that learning curve. Put any of the Qbs drafted in the past 3 years in that category. The difference is that Newton will be able to use his physical skills to make a play or extricate himself out of trouble some of the time. Much like Roethlisburger can shuck off a blitzer and buy time. Guys like Clausen can't do that.

Clearly understand but he will see the field before year 3. He might even see it this year the reason why is because nothing is better then game expierence. I know some people say well its to early to throw them out there they would get killed and all of the above. But you have to look at it as sometimes people have it in them. For example this is what I mean David carr was good in college but he wasnt never going to be great the same for Russell he could of been good in the league but the truth that matter is he didnt want to they didnt have it in them to be good. You cant really say a player will bust or not. People are already saying Cam will bust before he even get in the league just look at the NFL poll on NFL.com. If anything that should motoivate him to be great it should be doubts about him witch is what he said in the Gruden QB camp remember the gun analogy. I completely trust the Panthers with this situation we are not a bad team that people think we are. We have a good o-line when healthy we have two studs at running back and we have some decent wideouts if smitty is not with us. If they feel this guy can help make us a better team on the offensive side of the ball they should pull the trigger. I know there is jobs on the line and everything but sometimes you gotta take that chance only if you feel he could help the team out the best.

Here is something from a couple of my friends.
