What if Luck came out?

Well for me, most of Cam's character red flags were over blown. And I think Cam Newton has a higher ceiling than Andrew Luck.

I also don't think that Luck is sooooo much more polished as a thrower. I think he is more polished but Cam has a really good throwing motion. And his accuracy is underrated.

And Cam is simply the best running QB I have ever seen. He may not be as fast as Vick, but he has great vision, great cutting ability, the ability to break tackles, and can finish runs when he has to. I know some people don't like to count this as a positive but I do.

Disagree about the red flags. While I don't think the thing with him taking money is a big deal(because let's be real for a second, what top college prospect hasn't?), the cheating thing is a major red flag that will always prevent me from liking him.

Cheating is VERY serious, and something I don't take lightly. Some people who are caught cheating or plagiarizing are blackballed from college, Newton was fortunate enough to avoid this. It's already a damn cakewalk for athletes in college, being able to take whatever major they want and having professors essentially give them good grades. If you seriously have to cheat to get by, it's just unbelievably stupid and makes me question not only his decision making(could have ended his football career) but his work ethic as well.

And then you have the stolen laptop incident. I'll just say his red flags aren't overblown at all.

For the love of god. You won't know until years down the road. To automatically anoint him God of Football prospects you at least have to watch him play in the NFL. He may end up being the biggest bust of all time. S

when did I say any of this? of course he could end up being a bust. I'm simply stating that he was miles ahead of any QB prospect in this absolutely AWFUL quarterback class. that's a fact. there is a reason why the Panthers OFFICIALLY announced they would take him with the #1 pick, and haven't said a word about who they'll pick since he announced he was returning to college.

I've seen enough of Luck to know he is a championship caliber player. He would have won the national championship had he played on a stronger team. The team he didn't beat, he actually looked better against then Cam did. (And the only reason Cam won against Oregon was because of the guys on his team.) I've seen Luck's throwing and accuracy, but he also has speed on him. He's an athletic Peyton Manning.

All in all, the guy was able to come in right away, and I do think we are having a much different discussion in terms of Dwill staying here, also pretty sure Smitty would have liked to work with him because he never had a potential superstar QB throwing to him.

you really believe this?

Well for one no one even knows if those allegations of cheating are true. Some UNC players were accused of cheating this past football season and were vindicated of having done ANYTHING wrong.

In Newton's case he wasn't even accused of cheating. It is a report from a single source that has never been verified.

And buying a stolen laptop is small beans IMO.

First off Stanford had a great Defense and a ridiculously good coach. IMO Luck had the opportunity to beat Oregon and he couldn't pull it off. It's been a while since I saw that game so I can't say exactly how, but I remember distinctly thinking that he wasn't nearly as accurate as everyone made him out to be.

The VT game I thought he was obviously outplayed by Tyrod Taylor who was on an inferior team. Mostly VT just got out coached in that game. This coming from a guy who hates VT and was rooting for Stanford because at the time I was hoping Luck would be our savior.

Luck was really good at reading defenses, going through his progressions, and making pre snap adjustments. All the questions I have about Cam. He also looks like a water head so the Peyton thing makes sense. :p

I think Luck can be good but he's not the perfect QB and definately not miles ahead of Newton

Negatives: There aren’t a lot of things wrong with Luck’s game, but there are some things that I noticed and had problems with when watching him. First, he doesn’t have the best pocket poise. Especially off of play action he tends to panic and start to scramble if his first or second read isn’t there, and he will throw off balance a lot in these situations. Whether it is off of his back foot or while he is scrambling (even across his body occasionally) he will throw passes without setting his feet which I don’t like to see. He needs to work on his pocket presence if possible. I don’t know if he has a problem feeling the pressure, but he just needs to learn to step up into the pocket and buy time by side-stepping the rush at times instead of pulling the ball down to scramble. He also needs to be coached to not throw off of his back foot as often as he does. He also doesn’t have very good arm strength. He has great zip on passes to about 20-25 yards, but when he tries to throw a deep ball he will often be encountered with underthrown passes that have a lot of air under them. That is something he needs to work on.

His wind-up is so weird because unlike say, The Golden Calf of Bristol, Luck’s wind-up adds no momentum to the ball and is in many ways completely separate from his actual throwing motion.

Also unlike The Golden Calf of Bristol, Luck doesn’t always have a wind-up. It's like he winds the ball around and then brings the ball into a normal throwing motion and lets it fly. Luck has to learn to just cock the ball without throwing in a wind-up beforehand in all situations.

It must be said that there has been a noticeable decline in the rate of his wind-up in his throws from his red shirt freshman to red shirt sophomore year.

The total elimination of this wind-up will not affect his actual throwing motion in any way but dramatically speed up the delivery time from decision to release.

Luck also has a slight tendency to float balls when throwing 15-yard outs, digs and back shoulder fades. It’s not that Luck lacks the throwing motion to put the ball on more of a rope, but it’s that he is aiming it. If he does that in the pros more often than not, those balls will be batted down or worse intercepted
