nobody went crazy though in 2010 without a salary cap.

the only team that really bailed on payroll were the panthers, and they had a ton of other poo going on that led to their demise.

the nfl will just never be a league where you can immediately profit by signing every single player you can.

I actually agree with you on this point. The lack of a salary cap would not really change the landscape of the NFL that much from a game standpoint.

The only difference maybe in our opinions would be that I think the lack of a salary cap would also mean no more profit sharing which would change the landscape of the NFL and thus effect the NFL from a business standpoint. And it's not always about market size. Green Bay can survive and is the smallest market of all. Minnesota on the other hand is in a larger market and just can't survive due to multiple reasons.

On a side note, you believe the league should open their books? Can you give your reasons why? I will agree with you that the only true way to know for sure about the issue of profit is to open the books but my fears over this goes way beyond the NFL labor issues. I would just like to understand your reasoning behind this.

this doesn't make any sense.

so because the courts have ruled against them after they blew up the most profitable sports league in the world they're going to.....blow it up further? because they'll have to go back to the rules used in the horrors of their most profitable season ever in 2010?

Well I can tell you this, If I owned a business and the employees forgot they were employees and took me to court every time I turned around I would close up shop.

The owners didn't blow anything up. The CBA was not going to continue to work as it was agreed to a few years back. They were right to opt out the employees get too much. Somewhere along the way the players forgot they are employees, not partners like they think they are. See here is a cold hard fact, when you get a paycheck from someone else you are an employee.

If this goes all the way and the players win, I bet you see several owners dump the teams. It wouldn't shock me to see the NFL shut down as we know it and reopen under a different Business model.

I don't want to hear about 9 billion dollars, no employee has the right to tell employers how things will be ran period.

The way to end this anti trust bull poo is to close shop for a year and reopen as the NFL and AFL again. Now there are two leagues in which to pimp your wares so no monopoly. Now I know some fans will say there is just no way blah blah blah, I really think the fanbase of the NFL doesn't get a full grasp on how far the owners will go.

So does that mean our coaching staff wouldn't be breaking rules if they handed out playbooks and told guys to start going over it? I know it's not the same as practice, but giving the guys the bible and then having a couple extras to be given to the rookies would be at least a small step in the right direction correct?

The NFL backed out of the CBA during the height of NFL popularity. One of the reasons they did this is they claimed they were losing money. No one in their right mind believes this, and if it was true than it would be quite simple to prove it.

Of course they haven't done it because A. they're not losing money and B. a lot of owners do some things with their teams that they don't want their fans knowing about. The Glazers use the bucs as a bank to pay down interest on Man U, Kraft almost certainly has shady connections to Israel and all the illegal poo that entails, Dan Snyder would likely immediately get arrested etc

There's also the argument of helping to pay down the stadiums. Basically a few owners (Jones, Kraft, Snyder, Bidwells) have built new stadiums/made massive renovations. They didn't just pay for those things out of pocket. Despite what a bunch of people think, Jerry Jones is not the richest owners in the NFL by a damn sight. Off the top of my head I don't think he's top ten. He's not Allen, or Johnson, or any of those guys that could just write a check. No one in the NFL has Steinbrenner ship building type money.

Anyway, one argument put forth is that the players should take a lower percentage of the profits to help finance stadium construction. The owners claimed this would increase revenue (revenue has been heading straight up since 1993 so it's not necessary) and we'd go back to that horse poo "growing the pie" nonsense which is already happening. The players were actually amenable to that, but they wanted equity with stadiums. Of course the owners thought that was a ridiculous idea because why in the world would people who took a pay cut to build something want some of the realized profits from its construction..wait.

This is getting good now.

Train Wreck

Titanic going down.

Can't help but watch. I could give a poo about the players and their agents who are fighting this. The owners should let them all go and have open tryouts for non-contracted personnel. This is the only way to keep people watching.

A lot of you ladies say that the superstars will put butts in the seats and the game is not fun to watch without them. I say fvck that. ALL of that. A superstar with a chip on his shoulder theoretically produces the same or less than a 3rd or 4th stringer who thinks he has a chance to play the game rather than work at UPS. What's more that guy is happy as hell to make 150k to play 16, 18, 25 games if he has to.

Then, guess what fans who only pull for guys with gold teeth and mansions, ticket and concession prices can be lowered, agents are no longer needed and there is still plenty of money to help guys retire...which will be abused more than medicaid, WIC and every other socialist institution liberal minds have given us. But there is nothing that can be done about that.

The game will slow down and become the game it was again. A game of men against men. Pre-season games will be gone. Every game should count. Players making more than 20 times what the leader of the free world makes won't be pulled and MRI'd every time the wince because, oh, they got hit.

Get rid of these pussies and play football or let the league go down altogether. It is just going to get worse unless the owners make the stand they are making now and they know it. Those of you who don't see it go buy another jersey and talk about putting butts in the seats. Something you know NOTHING about.

So, any idea which day the judge is going to allow or refuse a "stay" on her ruling? Technically, if she refuses a stay it is business as usual including trading of players during the draft. Whether or not she makes her announcement Thursday, Friday or next week is a big deal to teams thinking of moving players in the draft.

    • Responding to faking height. If you had some tightly wound braids on top of your head, be about the only thing that comes to mind that might get you a little extra.
    • Who mentioned anything about money? I said they are bad people. When you have that kind of power you tend to be a jerk. It's common that most rich people think they are above everyone else.   It's why these owners always get caught up in some scandal. There are more than we know about trust me. Some pay off people to keep quiet. Hell we already dealt with it with JR. My issue is not with their wealth. My issue is what that wealth brings which can be some evil tendencies...
