If Steve Smith is sent packing...

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

there is a difference between being a talented player and one of your teams best players.

Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, etc. have always been talented players......they weren't the best players for their teams.

 CRA...just STOP! You aren't making any sense at all!

We are all dumber having read every post that you have written on this thread!

Now he has to be cheerleader too? He probably wants to leave because he's not getting paid like a Head Coach/WR Coach/Veteran Pro Bowl Wide Receiver/Cheerleader should.

He can't be fuking human and want to win and be frustrated that the FO wasted his season by picking Jimmy fuking Clausen in the draft?

He wants to win. With that fire comes frustration. That fire has led to more good than bad for the Panthers.

I like that Steve Smith's character and past issues don't concern you. It's all about winning...glad we see eye to eye

Go Panthers!

If Smitty is gone for good, or if it turns out that they are planning for his exit, AJ Green will be the pick on Thursday...

...Funny how this comes out right before the draft and Cincy at #4 needs a WR and would likely trade up for one...HMMMMMM

Rivera will most def have a hand in Smith's dismissal.

Dude is a 1st year head coach, taking over a team that alienated a lot of it's fans last season. Not to mention so many questions regarding quarterbacks and the entire offense.

The LAST thing a coach in his position needs is a volatile, hot head messing up the balance and control of the organization. I hope this works out with Smith, but if he is sent packing, I totally understand Rivera and his position.

Since they have already met and discussed. I would say Smith and Rivera both have their terms, and if they can't compromise then I think it's a mutual decision between the two and I will respect both of their decisions. If it was a Rivera kicking him to the curb scenario(which i dont see happening) then I would be biased towards Smith.

I think from Smith's point of view he's facing a very critical time in his career. He's gone from being one of the best to being wasted the last two years because of Jake D. and a poo offense. I can only speculate what's going on in his head but I would imagine it's something like this:

1. Do I stay in Charlotte with the Panthers, play out my career and enjoy my time. Eventually pass the reigns to Gettis probably and be content with the possibility that Rivera's team may take 2-3 years to be a top or even competitive team.

Or

2. Do I take my chance with another team. Possibly a team where I know the QB situation is stable. Give it my all and aim to be the best while I still can.

I think the situation is really personal to him because you have to imagine what it's like to be Smitty vs. all the other Top 10 WR's, and all the other CB's that have so called been able to "shut him down" because Jake and Clausen would throw a pick or overlook him.

Smith wants to prove himself and he still wants to show that he's great. That's why I love him. If not this would be a non issue.

After that...There shouldn't be anything left to say... VERY well put buddy

No, just don't need the lone "vet" WR cursing out the QB and coaching staff as a consistant thing on Sundays.

I dislike Clausen's QB play as much as anyone.....but Steve Smith clearly bad bad scenarios worse.

I agree Smith wants to win.....he likely isn't a good fit on a young offense. Carolina ain't ready to win now and will be young.

okay, tell my why Randy Moss and TO didn't play there entire careers with one team?

Bottom line is there comes a time when talent doesn't outweigh the negative players bring to a team. If you can't see how Steve Smith is rapidly approaching that after last season......well.....

Carolina is a young team....and Steve Smith is begining simply not to fit.

As long as we win, who cares?

You can take the most amazing play a single player has ever run, and if you loose that game... nobody really cares about "the play". :D

That's just how it is.

I really don't think Fox is a decent coach when it comes to running an offense. So, if somebody who does know how to run an offense, like Rob Chudzinski comes along and feels Smith can be let go of, for the better, I have no hard feelings.

I want this team to win. Smith can be a cancer at times, and I respect any coaches decision to move on.
