Judge Nelson rules in favor of the players (lockout lifted...at the moment)

The immediate impact of the ruling on the status of an estimated 500 free agent players and other player transactions is uncertain. If the league does not get the court to stay the ruling pending an appeal, the league will have to open its doors for players. The NFL also will have to decide whether to impose a similar system that has been in place under the previous collective bargaining agreement that expired on March 11.

...and the ticker at the bottom of the NFLN said the judge declined to stay the ruling pending an appeal, so I think the means the NFL is open for business - right?

I still don't think they can resume until the appeals have all been exhausted. Anyone know??

here is the deal, if FA takes place and the owners win the appeal then what? The NFL will argue you can't put the players back, cancel contracts etc.

There needs to be a stay till the appellate court rules

It means she is a fuging idiot. She will be over ruled by the upper courts. The NFL needs to run over and file appeal immediately asking for a stay of her decision.

Judge Susan Nelson Monday granted the plaintiffs' request for an injunction to lift the NFL lockout.

But perhaps the biggest development is that Nelson has decided not to stay the decision, which could force the league to open for business immediately. The NFL now must seek a stay with the Eighth Circuit, where the appeal would be heard, in order to prevent a potentially chaotic beginning to the 2011 league year.

Nelson's decision in the Brady et al v. National Football League et al case comes on the heels of the mediation she appointed going into a nearly-month long recess, with U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan making the decision last Wednesday to adjourn the session until May 16.

The league will likely appeal Nelson's decision swiftly, wanting to avoid the beginning of free agency and offseason programs with the potential that, if the Eighth Circuit rules in its favor, the lockout could be reinstituted in the coming weeks or months.

Seems like the owners would want to trade and poo with the Draft being this Thursday.

I would.

That's why this...

The NFL also will have to decide whether to impose a similar system that has been in place under the previous collective bargaining agreement that expired on March 11.

...is what I think happens.

I don't know about the fuging idiot part, but from what I understand the NFL will pursue a stay from an appeals court and according to Roger Cossack on ESPN, the appeals court should rule on that stay pretty quickly, within a week or so.
