Mayock Officially Becomes a Hater

I was just about to post this article too. I get the opposite gut feeling about him, I get the feeling his desire to be great far exceeds his desire to be a millionaire. But it's only a gut feeling, same as Mayock. The part of the article I thought was most interesting was:

”He’s got all the tools. Mechanically, he’s way beyond where The Golden Calf of Bristol and Vince Young were as college quarterbacks. . . . He’s got everything on the physical side.”

“I think the kid is smart enough. I just don’t know if he cares enough,” Mayock said. ”And I don’t know how you qualify that either. The kid has done everything right.”

Sounds like the only real complaint he has about him is his gut feeling that he isn't driven. Sounds like a ringing endorsement if you don't share his gut feeling.

I respect Mayock on the draft more then any other analyst but just because he says it doesn't make it true. I worry a lot more about all the off the field stuff then I do about anything else but I don't really question his drive or work ethic.

One thing is certain: If we don't take Newton, either the vast majority of major media people really misread the situation or Hurney has the most epic of misdirection powers.

This. Of course he is a former media guy so if anyone knows how to mislead the media it is him

I have allot of respect for Mayock, but I think he's wrong about Cam just like he was wrong about Clausen being a top 10 prospect last year...

I thought Mayock didn't like Clausen. He may have thought someone would take him, and he may have had him as his 2nd QB, but I don't think he was actually #10 on his Big Board... are you sure about that?

I remember it quite clearly, when Mayock reported from Clausen's pro day he said something to the effect of: "if you believe in a top 10, then you believe Clausen is a top 10 prospect".

I don't think Mayock liked Clausen's intangibles at all and I really don't think he had him in his top ten at any point... even if he called him a "top 10 prospect."

Can't find any actual list with him in the top 10.

The media was way off base with Clausen no matter how you slice it. But they don't have the resources GMs do. There is a reason Clausen fell as far as he did. And it likely wasn't available to the media (or Hurney who likely didn't do much homework on the guy bc he never thought he would fall that far)
