The Raiders Big Risk Big Reward method hasn't worked very well over the last 8 seasons or so either.

Most teams that turn themselves around do so based on a the changes in the coaching staff and front office. It's also why teams usually fall as well.

New Orleans didn't draft Vince Young in the draft when Sean Peyton came in. Instead they signed a FA QB that was coming off shoulder surgery that most thought was just okay. It was still a risk but a different kind of risk. And that's the point. Different teams have had success and failure with many different approaches.

I'm not saying drafting Newton is a good idea or not. Just that a there is more than one way to be successful and to be failures.

The Raiders are run by a psychopath with little to no ability to judge talent. They also have a much better offense than us. I am not a Cam hugger I just think we need to make a legitimate move to get a top talent QB. I was a huge Brees fan and was really hoping we would make a play for him. We didn't, just like we have refused to take any other chances that would land us a QB.

There is a misconception that a Spread Offense and a Zone-Read Run offense are the same, because they are both usually referred to are a "Spread Offense".

They are, in actuality, completely different.

I still think they made a mistake, Suh could has solidified their DT position and then they could have grabbed Locker or Gabbert this year. You dont need impressive quarterback play just good quarterback play. After all, Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.

And trent Dilfer is not leading his teams to the playoffs year end and year out with sustained success giving his team to compete in the post season like the othe elite quarterbacks.... Brees, Mannning, Brady, Big Ben Ect.

If you just want to build a team for one good year then by all means draft other positions, but having a QB who can constantly get you to the post season with a chance is what most of us want....

Remember that was why Fox got bashed... yes he almost won a superbowl, got to a couple championships, but never had consistent sustained success.... That's what everyone wants and you need a good QB for that...

FYI- this is not an endorsement for Cam or any other QB in this draft, as I do not know if they are that QB. We may need one, but you can;t force one if it's not there either.

don't think too many people have said all spread QB's are stupid and bound to suck. But it is true that they will have more to learn and it will more than likely be a harder transition to the NFL.

People have watched Cam, and listened to Cam, and have concerns over just how much he has to learn.... Example: You can listen to a spread QB, but see that he understands the game will and has high QB IQ even in the system.... SO while he may need time to transition, you believe you can transition... at least the X's and O's part.

You want to take what people say about 1 prospect and say "If they think that way about Cam then they think that way about all spread QB's" That generalization is not true... Most of us try to look at a player objectively as an individual and draw our conclusions.... Not elementary thinking…. Pro style QB's = Success, Spread = Failure.

This is the way that I feel about the whole thing. I don't hate Cam Newton as a player, but I don't think he is a #1 Overall player. If we were sitting at pick 10, 11, or 12, and Cam was still there, I would be all for drafting him.

But, right now, there are players who are just as highly touted, that don't have the pure character concerns of Cam Newton.

A lot goes into the #1 Overall pick. That player instantly becomes the face of the franchise. That player instantly inherits a very, very large sum of money. You want to take the player you think will best represent your team, your fan base, your city, and also help you to win at the same time.

Yeah, but Hurney did take a risk last year. And Clausen sucked.

Maybe your not among this group that only wants Newton but there have been a lot of comments that if you look at them all together they think that the only good way Hurney can take a risk on a QB is by drafting Newton. That just isn't true.

He could stick with Clausen and end up a genius. Most of us would think that is very unlikely but how many teams passed on Brady? The Bucs traded away a HOF QB in Steve Young? Same thing with the Chargers and Brees.

I just don't think the only way for the Panthers to address the QB situation is to draft one with the #1 overall pick. Maybe its in the 3rd, maybe it's a free agent, maybe it's a trade. But just because Hurney drafts Peterson, Miller or Dereus doesn't mean he's playing it safe. It could be but it's not the only reason.

1. Greg Jones (LB, MSU) – I love LBs who always find the football, and Jones does that better than anyone in the country. Will continue his massive tackle numbers for whatever team takes him around the 4th round. Compares well to DeMeco Ryans.

Always love it when an MSU boy gets some love. Still pulling for Blair White (Colts) and Hoyer (Pats).

      People who didn't watch him look pretty pedestrian against a top shelf D in PSU then went back and looked to see that most of his gaudy stats were piled up against mediocre at best competition.
