The final case for Cam Newton

I say the reasons I dislike him and all the Cam huggers just come out and discredit everything about my legitimate dislikes and essentially make me go into more details about my reasoning, once I do I get labeled as a "hater" or "racist". No, I don't know his family, but I know plenty of guys like Cecil who want to use their son for their own benefit, and those issues rub off on the son, the son then becomes a trouble maker. Do I actually think Cam is a horrible kid? No. I think Cam has an infectious smile and is generally an okay kid. I think it was my Aunt that convinced me more than anything (being a psychiatrist) and just confirmed those thoughts.

It's about 70/30 on whether Cam's character issues will continue through the nfl due to the issues wit his father or whatever else is going on in his head, the 70 favoring that it will.

So no, I am not a hater, I am not racist, I don't hate Cam or his family, it's more of me loving the Panthers and me not wanting to be in the basement for the next five years because Cam has daddy issues, or his lack of skills.

Sorry but when you come out of no where and say Cam Newtons dad is a scumbag, it sounds like hate. At least it does to me. I could go through other threads and find more examples but I think you get my point.

As far as Character concerns they are opinion based. I don't find anything Cam did a character issue. Some may say well he must be immature because of the things he did which is fine but, how mature should someone be at the age of 18 or 19 years old.

You named off just about ever QB on a team in the league and asked who had character issues coming out of college. Honestly how do you know who did and who did not. You only know what is reported by the media. I am sure some will admit to the fact that they may have cheated before. I know plenty of my friends have. And yes some of them were unlucky enough to get caught. Did it change my view of them as a person? Absolutely not. I bet some of them drank underage as well. Maybe even bought an illegal drug like "Marijuana" oh no! Guess what, since it was not ever reported by the media we all have no idea.

The pay for play thing was entirely overblown. If they really dug deep enough, they would have to do an investigation on the entire NCAA in every sport. Also to me, It looks a lot worse when the teams were actually considering paying. I wonder why that is, maybe because it is not the first time a school has payed a player to play for them.

I can continue on if you would like or anyone else for that matter, but since most everything discussed is opinion based, it likely will go in one ear and out the other.

Or, make it even easier and don't draft him.

And if they don't draft him, I am okay with that, as I am sure they have better information than anyone on a message board.

If they do, then I would hope everyone gets on board and puts their confidence in the newest member of the team.

I personally don't think any of Cam's character issues are that big a deal to not draft him. But being 18 or 19 isn't an excuse to throw a laptop with your name on it out of a window when you get caught.

One or two incidents wouldn't bother me, but a two year pattern of behavior is pretty alarming.

I don't think you automatically cross him off the list, but I also don't think you just chalk it up to being young. IMO you have to look into it, ask him about it, and decide how comfortable you are with the answers.

I agree with you, but sometimes people do not think in a state of panic. In the past, when I have been pulled over, even when I have done nothing wrong, (at least I do not think I have) I get nervous because I do not like police.

Also, age in this country is usually an excuse to everything. I mean kids under 18 get treated with an entire different set of laws (to some extent). That is because of the idea that kids are young and stupid and will hopefully learn from their mistakes.

I understand being nervous. But when the police are in your room, have already seen the laptop, and step outside to check the serial number, throwing it out the window just makes you look guilty like you are trying to get rid of the evidence. IMO being 18 isn't an excuse. I would expect a 10 year old to be that dumb not an 18 year old.

Please elaborate on this pattern of behavior that is "alarming"

Holy sh1t dude, are you really that frigging oblivious?

Buying stolen propery ( grand larceny)

Throwing it out a window when cops arrive

12 traffic tickets in two years

Academic fraud/cheating (3 counts)

Accusations of stealing from teammates by teammates

Pay for play

This goes beyond college shenanigans or immaturity. I'm sure you'll break your back bending over backwards trying to rationalize all this, but it doesn't matter. I don't want my QB to have his own mug shot and as much controversy as a 10 term politician.
