I said I don't take Softli seriously when it comes to player evaluation because he's proven to be bad at it. I still don't.

The whole point was that there are guys who objectively are good and objectively bad. Those judgments shouldn't be made solely based on whether they agree with your opinion or not. There are guys whose opinions I respect who disagree with me, and conversely guys who agree with me whose opinions I don't pay that much attention to. Softli is in the second group, and that's not likely to change.

It's factual that he said this. That doesn't mean he's right. He may be, or he may not be, but the only thing that can be factually stated at this point is "Tony Softli thinks this will happen".

Put pretty much any other name in there and it doesn't really change much.

If Darues really is the pick, I would think that we would here more information about the Panthers having private interviews with Dalton, Ponder, and Kaepernick. Does anyone know if these guys have even been contacted by the Panthers.

I agree with those, who don't take it too serious. Seems like he was giving an opinion. Perhaps he has spoken to an old contact, who leaked him a secret. Might be as simple has a current Panther scout, telling him that Dareus is number one on the panther board. Doesn't mean they won't draft Cam.

I'd rather see the team take Dareus, PP, or Green knowing that in this lockout year of football, with a hard schedule if they do play, the team has a shot at Luck. It'll take the #1 pick again though to get him.

seeing that the source is a radio interview it also just seems like that's what he feels they should do, based on past experiences in the organization. now whether we are still under the defense first mantra without foxy there is another thing. one thing is for sure, whoever we draft 1st overall is going to set the tone for how we operate as a team going forward.

If not Newton, I would like Green because of Smith's uncertainty with the Panthers. It doesn't make sense to me to draft a DT #1 when the draft class this year is so deep at the position and our offense needs serious help.

THe guy brought us one of the worse drafts in our history and was fired because he was so bad. I wouldn't take his opinion on where to eat let alone who to draft. I put no stock in his proclamation whe he liked Newton and see no reason to change my mind now. Come Thursday we will know who has insider info and who is just speculating.

Softli wasn't fired either. Technically he was promoted. He left the Panthers for a "vice president of personnel" or some such title with the Rams.

There was reportedly tension in the Panthers personnel department for years because some felt Softli spent more time campaigning for GM job elsewhere than he did doing the job he had here. He finally did get what he was looking for, and proceeded to completely tank.

I'm much happier with Don Gregory than I ever was with Softli.

Actually after trading up last year and getting Edwards and losing our 2nd rounder and trading a first to get into the 2nd round and taking Brown, I think I would prefer Rocket Science.
