I came to a realization today...

Yeah...

Listen, Newton is the best pick. There are many, many positives, and a lot less negatives.

The worst they can say about the kid is that he cheated on an exam? Bought a stolen laptop? Come on. The kid was in college, its not like these are major "red flags" like a lot of you like to point out.

Yea his dad is weird but Newton doesn't portray his dads qualities. Someone is taking Newton, and they will be happy they did. Because the kid can win, with his arm, with is feet, with his leadership abilities.

Newton is a possible FRANCHISE guy. Clausen wasn't expected to be, and he isn't. Delhomme wasn't a franchise QB.

CAROLINA HAS NEVER HAD A FRANCHISE QB.

I mean come on people. It is time to take some shots. Get a guy that can win for the next decade, so we can get some damn players that actually compliment the QB.

Carolina has always relied on the running game, the power run, average QB play, because they have never had a guy to build around.

I am tired of it. I want a franchise QB. I am tired of mediocre play at THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN THE NFL.

If not Newton, then who? When? Next year? The year after? 5 years from now? NO. Start now. Find the guy. Stop screwing around, looking for the "safe pick." "Safe" was John Fox. This is not John Fox's team anymore. It is time to grab a QB.

Newton is unique. He has the tools to change the way our team can play, which would be 10 times more exciting than what carolina has been failing at for the last 6 years.

Draft Newton, the risk is worth it, defense played decently last year, can ALWAYS address defense in the draft, Luck won't be drafted by us next year, BLAH BLAH BLAH. Enough arguing and bickering and tip toeing around.

I would agree, except for one reason. The Panthers will need another quarterback one way or another and one would think that they would be much more serious about taking a look at every quarterback in the draft, unlike last year. To my knowledge the Panthers have not contacted Ponder, Dalton, or Kaepernick which indicates that they are 100% serious about taking Newton #1 overall.

<<<<<<<< 100% Asshole

Yeah, pretty much, but I've never gotten the impression that bothers you

Probably a fair number of people who call me that too, I suppose :boxing_smiley:

(maybe they're right too)

yippee another year of below average QB play

Drafting any of the guys out there now wouldn't change that.

how you can say that the negatives and positives are not equal is beyond me. I can try to look past his character issues with the laptop thing, the pay for play and the cheating. I can try an chalk that up to being young and stupid, because when we were that young, we were all that stupid.

And let me say that I too, am sick and tired of mediocre QB play. very sick of it. I've been sick of it forever.

But I just don't understand the Newton Hype. I really can't. He's a freak athelete and he had a great year last year. The offense he played in and his skill set right now does not translate to the NFL well at all.

Every other year there is a freak athelete QB like Newton that is suppose to change the way the game is played.

it never works out. ever.

Newton's ceiling may be high, but his floor is just as low. The kid is so incredibly raw that it will take more than a year to get him acclimated to play in the NFL. He doesn't understand complex plays, his accuracy while playing under center isn't very good, and we aren't sure if he is capable of making reads while dropping back from under center.

yes these things are fixable, but CAN they be fixed? do we know for certain that all the things necessary for cam to succeed will fall into place for us?

too many questions and too big a risk when our GM is already on the hot seat for being a tard the past couple years in the draft and a rookie head coach.

I just can't be comfortable with Cam as our pick. I can't be comfortable with Gabbert as our pick either. too many questions with them.

I understand. But if we pick defense, Darius, then we will have Clausen again. I for one think Clausen will greatly improve, so that sticks us with what, the 5th, 6th pick next year? Maybe as low as 3rd. But that doesn't give us Luck.

Luck will be drafted number 1 next year, not by us. I haven't looked into the other QB's available next year, so I will have to do some research. But I am sure the panthers have looked at it, and know that Newton stands a much better chance than the other QB's next year.

So what is it? Would you rather take Newton, a possible franchise guy, and let him learn and gain experience? Or would you rather delay the whole thing until next year, when we don't get Luck and are stuck in the same situation that we are in right now?

The way I see it, we need to take the chance now, rather than later. I don't like Gabbart, I don't like Mallet, we won't get Luck next year, and who knows what kind of crappy QB's will be available in the next draft. Newton is the best chance, now and for next year, to have a QB that will be solid. So what if we do bad this season, we will have a decent QB roster, and we can draft all kinds of defense next draft.

I dunno, Newton just feels like the right pick. There are no guarentees in the draft, but he just seems to be the guy.

Drafting a QB just to draft a QB is idiotic. You build a team by making GOOD decisions in the draft, not risky ones. (google Bobby Beathard). You take the best player on the board, which wouldn't be Newton at #1. Then you adjust from there. I could take Andy Dalton at #1 because he could potentially be the safest QB pick in the entire class and we need a QB. But would that make sense? Food for thought.
