Memories you'll never forget

but yeah on a more serious note...

I remember things like:

I used to be terrified of the Big Bad Wolf roller coaster commercials that came out when the coaster did... If they came on, I would run and hide. (okay, this is a funny one, even though srs)

The birth of my son, and holding him for the first time...

My grandma's cornbread and apple jacks...

My first date with the wifey...

The smell of a campfire...

Barely cheating serious injuries in various ways, including stepping on a cottonmouth, grabbing a black widow, falling into a raging river, etc.

The feeling of sand between your toes and under your feet at the beach...

Snorkeling/skin diving for the first time with my contact lenses in (being able to clearly see everything in the water)...

off the top of my head...

Some of your responses definitely made me tear up a little bit. Both the sad and happy ones.

Just assures me that I have lots of things to look forward to in the future and I am really excited about experiencing them after reading some of this stuff.

Also reminds me that I need to be cherishing every single moment I can with my uncle as he suffers and with my grandma as well. Especially after seeing my uncle this weekend, I am realizing the days I am spending with them now will soon be the memories I cherish in the future.

Too true! You don't know what you've got until it is gone applies to a lot more than intimate relationships...

My grandpa is 95 in September, and he's still doing good for his age... but as a realist I know he doesn't have much longer to live... That will be one of the saddest days I have ever had when the time comes, but that is also what memories are for...

my sons birth

my wedding

the first time I played on a stage in front of people (did NOT go well)

I could go on, and on, but I have such a vivid memory there's a billion things up there (sorry Cat). It can be a bad thing too, sometimes it's better to forget, sometimes

The birth of both my children.

9/11 -- everything about that day

Kennedy assassination -- 3rd grade

Day my daddy died -- Aug. 18, 2002

Day my brother died -- June 19, 2008

The day in Winston-Salem when we found out my brother's cancer was terminal and having to call my children and my sister to break the news.

The nights in the hospital when my terminally ill brother would beg me not to leave him alone; he was afraid to be alone in the hospital.

What I remember about 9/11 (well, one of the things) was having lunch with my friend at Longhorn Steakhouse (which used to be near the stadium) and thinking how weird it was that we were casually having lunch just hours after my generation's Pearl Harbor.

Scariest moment of that day....ticker on bottom of the screen saying "Fire at the Pentagon". At that moment I wondered if several enemies were attacking us at once.

Good memories (I realized everything I listed except the birth of my children was sad):

Births of my children -- son, Nov. 21, 1981; daughter, April 11, 1985

Christmas I got my first Barbie doll, and a trunk full of clothes for her made by my mother

Introducing Lewis Grizzard to a sold out auditorium (and having a drink with his crew before I took the stage)

The Panthers Super Bowl (even though we lost, it was still a fun experience)

Panthers Hall of Fame Game appearance (which we won)
