Newton only similar to one successful QB in last 5 years..

Clausen doesn't know how to execute the called plays.....he checks down or kills rotues/plays w/ his panic scramble. Clausen is the Notre Dame QB.....that weak stuff works against crap teams in college.

Where is Brady Quinn right now? lol

Because QBs selected after the first round generally aren't expected to be franchise guys anyway. Sure, you have exceptions like Clausen (but apparently we were the only team in the NFL who thought he would be any good.) but in general this is a good rule of thumb.

It would be like listing every dippoo who amassed 4000 yards passing in a pro-style offense at Nutsack Community College and got drafted in the 7th round on the off chance that they might one day be a serviceable backup and then saying, "SEE, TRADITIONAL DROP-BACK QBS DON'T WORK IN THE NFL!!!"

Well I think that's a bit extreme. This simply points out that in the last 5 years, only 1 QB that is considered successful has had over 105 rushing attempts in college.

The reasons for this could be plentiful.

The most intriguing thing is how people want to compare him to Ben or A Rod and stuff when he had AT LEAST 2.5 more runs than them in college. That's insane.

People assume he'll be able to change his whole game in a year or two AND get it up to the level of NFL starter and I just don't see it happening.

throwing mechanics are flat out horrible. Clausen throws a low and slow ball.....which means he can't throw over the middle. He neglects the majority of the field b/c of that.

Clausen didn't fit Fox's offense...which was fine b/c he wasn't drafted for Fox. Problem is they brought in Chud who is going to ask virtually the same things from his QBs.

Your original point was that Clausen has a lot working against him that Cam does not. However, many people point to mechanics, accuracy and lack of field vision as a knock against Cam as well. While Clausen may need to work on these things, so does Newton. So you cannot say that is something working against Clausen and not Newton.

Yes, they both need to work on things....as I said in initial post. Cam's issues would be easier for a good coach to work around......b/c Cam has more talent and the ideal size of a NFL QB. Cam needs to work on improving things like footwork and snaps under center...........Clausen needs to rework his entire throwing motion and the mindset he plays the game with. I don't see those happening.......that is the QB he was built into over years and years.

I would rather have a guy that has to change his footwork but throws the ball well upstairs, than a guy who is 6'1 and throws side arm. Clausen is going to have to change his entire throwing motion to be successful mechanically.

And when/if Luck and the other top choices in the '12 qb class have a bad or just an average year, and the media hounds, analysts and scouts rank the more popular of the group as 2nd or 3rd round quality.............. should we be patient and wait another year, for the right qb?

yeah

Who cares as long as he could pronounce it. What good is swag if you don't know what you are talking about.

(Erased borderline inappropriate reenactment of Cam talking about play design)

I know you don't care about Clausen so I'm not sure why you are defending him lol we must just be trolling eachother.
