Newton only similar to one successful QB in last 5 years..

Newton will do absolutely nothing for us for years to come.

Dareus on the other hand will give us 16 games of forcing

turnovers,QB sacks and 3 and outs. How can you pass up

a force on defense for an unknown(bust)quantity??

Smart move would be to play Claussen 1 more year, get Dareus

and if worse comes to worse there are far better QB's coming

out in 2012. I do not want a liar and thief as the Face of my Franchise.

or Dareus could be an utter flop....like many highly drafted DTs.

Nothing is smart about giving Clausen another year as a starter. Clausen is years away from being in a position where he is ready to see the field in this type of offense. Clausen could be further away than Cam from being ready.....Clausen has lots of things working about against him Cam doesn't. Seems to be easier to work around Cam's issues.

Such as? At least he knows how to call a play.

Mike Vick may be faster, but speed does not determine success when it comes to running the ball in the NFL. Newton has just as impressive cutting ability as Vick, has better vision as a runner, can finish runs better than Vick, is harder to tackle than Vick, and accelerates better than you give him credit for TRD.

As a matter of fact in terms of vision, breaking tackles, and finishing runs there has never been a QB prospect like him that I have seen. The Golden Calf of Bristol was strong but doesn't have the speed, vision, or cutting ability that Newton has.

If speed was the best way to determine running success shouldn't teams just draft the fastest RB every year?? Drafting running backs would be a piece of cake.

Oh yeah, and he can throw the ball better than Vick could at this stage in his career too.

It's a good thing people who get paid to judge talent can see past what you can't TRD. I'm not arguing that he's the next Joe Montana, but if he's just a one trick pony, no one would even be talking about him. Sort of like how people NOT in the know said The Golden Calf of Bristol would have to be a FB in the NFL. Well he did better than Clausen, who even experts said was pro-ready. Yes, the safe pick is better than going on faith for a fan, but being in the know trumps everything, and we as fans are not in the know and never will be...no matter how comfy our armchair is.

I didnt know our offense was even considered "Pro".

Since the OP is about comparing Vick to Newton, the only thing you can use to compare right now is what they did in college since Newton has not even been drafted yet.

I will give you the stats. If someone wants to find video to make comparisons of the two in college feel free to do so.

Vick:

YEAR CMP ATT CMP% YDS TD INT ATT YDS TD

1999 90 153 58.8 1840 12 5 110 580 8

2000 97 179 54.2 1439 9 7 113 636 9

Newton:

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% TD INT ATT YDS TD

2010 185 280 2854 66.1 30 7 264 1473 20

Undefeated, 2 BCS Championships at 2 different levels. Heisman, AP player of the year.

Do I need to list more haters?

That comparison has no basis in reality. Take look at Vick's college stats compared to Cam's.

Vick

Passing Rushing

YEAR CMP ATT CMP% YDS TD INT ATT YDS TD

1999 90 153 58.8 1840 12 5 110 580 8

2000 97 179 54.2 1439 9 7 113 636 9

Cam

Stats Overview Passing

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT

2007 5 10 40 50.0 4.00 14 0 0 0 83.60

2008 1 2 14 50.0 7.00 14 0 0 0 108.80

2010 185 280 2854 66.1 10.19 94 30 7 23 182.05

McShay really has no credibility if he thinks that's a proper comparison. There's not a single statistical category which shows Vick to be even close to the college qb Cam is. Add in the measureables and the comparison looks even dumber.

Such as? At least he knows how to call a play.

Clausen doesn't know how to execute the called plays.....he checks down or kills rotues/plays w/ his panic scramble. Clausen is the Notre Dame QB.....that weak stuff works against crap teams in college.

throwing mechanics are flat out horrible. Clausen throws a low and slow ball.....which means he can't throw over the middle. He neglects the majority of the field b/c of that.

Clausen didn't fit Fox's offense...which was fine b/c he wasn't drafted for Fox. Problem is they brought in Chud who is going to ask virtually the same things from his QBs.
