dareus refuses to be derailed

Which is exactly what Dareus is there to prevent other teams from doing :)

...

Sign this man.

I agree. His Character alone makes him worth the #1 pick. I mean I wonder what Jamarcus Newton did when he won? Defense wins championships and Dareus is the man who can make our defense great. We have a defensive minded coach and our defense isnt that bad to begin with. We can get Dareus and draft some more DT to add to our already young and talented defensive ends and we instantly have a dominate D line with depth for the next five years.

There's nothing wrong with our defense. We could always get a DT FA. or 3rd round.

Really? Linebackers aside, you are completely comfortable with our defense? Our defense needs almost as much work as the offense.

I'm not sure how many games you saw last year, but the defense didn't look too great.

Best you can do is .500 if you tie all 16.

Which is unfortunately better than half of our seasons

I don't see any QB in this draft that can start from day 1. Dareus, unless we got suckered, would be an immediate starter on the line, therefore making an immediate impact. We'd be well on our way to .500 before any of the QBs ever gets to sniff the field.

Before somebody takes this the wrong way with, "SEE~! PPL WHO DUN WANT A QB JUST LIKE TO LOSE!" I'm not okay with .500

When given the choice between less than half of the games being won next season (if there is one) as opposed to winning about half, I'll take the later. Especially since "undefeated + Super Bowl" is for people who's points are so far out of this realm of reality that they can't help but reach out of desperation.

0 to 0 results in tie games man. Best you can do is .500 if you tie all 16. We've had enough of that (.500 seasons that is).

There's a world beyond this "franchise QB" paradigm that everyone is grasping on to in such desperation this year. Yeah if we don't go offense on this one pick, we will not score any points at all :mad2:

If Newton comes in for Buffalo or Cincy, starts for them, and elevates their game play on day one... what then? And he COULD do that. He's training to do that. If we go Dareus or PP7, yes, we have potentially boosted our Defense with a #1 pick... but they ran middle of the pack most the year, while our offense ran at the bottom of the list, and will probably continue that trend.

If we keep our current stable of QBs, unmodified, and we're willing to accept proven NFL-failure in the face of potential success.

One often used definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. We've had stop gaps (Peete). We've had veteran backups (Delhomme). None of them gave us a championship. None of them gave us consistency.

What we have never had was a top draft selection QB. Right now, that's Newton. We can't hold out for next year, as we most likely WON'T be the #1 draft again (Rivera has to improve our record... it's why he's here and not Fox). We can't bet on the draft class to come. We have to gamble on the draft selection now.

Points given up: 37, 34, 31, 31, 31, 31, 31, 27, 24, 23, 20, 20, 20, 20, 16, & 12

So, what exactly is your definition of fine? Oh, the 12 points was against a ROOKIE QB with a struggling offense too. So, we held one team...really, to fewer than 20 points and gave up more than 4 TDs SEVEN times.

If we really think this whole thing through then we

will take Dareus. He will give us years of pro-bowl play

forcing turnovers and sacking QB's. They will double him

but he defeats the double team and then our LB's step up.

Newton is too inaccurate and not one to represent the

Proud Panther Nation. Much rather have a proven commodity

named DAREUS.

This thread is about Dareus FYI. You're the only one lobbying Newton to an irritating extent in a thread where it has no relevance and the subject should be this great article on Dareus. Please stop? It's kind of trashing the huddle.

Wait... so we get two #1 draft picks?

No? Oh.

So if we draft Dareus, I guess we won't have our choice in improving the offense, which had the worst QB play in franchise history.

If Gabbert were clearly the #1 QB pick, he'd be in my sig and who I was talking about. If Luck had declared and was still considered #1, he'd be who the topic drifted towards.

Just cause you don't like Newton, which is clear, doesn't mean he isn't relevant to the conversation.
