As I've said all along, with the right draft (defense) and retaining the right players, we should be in contention for a playoff spot with a dominating defense and an average to above average offense.

I only see 3 to 4 wins at best unless we can step it up on offense based on our schedule.

No! but based on our schedule, the fact we do not have a 2nd rd pick or QB coupled with the impact of a new coaching regime that will be hampered by the dragging out of the CBA my expectations have been lowered consideribly.

If we have an identity I will be satisfied.

The new coaching staff brings me a ton of excitement, but the pissing away of recent draft picks has us in a hole. If we were going in a youth movement we should have traded Smith and locked up Beason and Kalil before the lockout, but we didn't. It just seems for the last couple of years we have had no idea what we wanted to do in terms of goals.

5-11 would be pretty good IMO.

6-10 or worse = disappointing season, we probably decided to stick with Clausen

7-9 or 8-8 = satisfactory and we are heading in the right direction - Matt Moore or Free Agent QB probably starting

9-7 or 10-6 = exceeds expectations and our defense is probably top 3 in the league with Matt Moore or Free Agent starting

11-5 or better = we took a gamble on Cam Newton and it worked

that would be a basis for any established team. I would recommend lower those expectations a tad bit. If we won 6 games with no QB, then we've had a good year.

I expect the defense to be one of the top 5 in the league. However, for this to be accomplished, over an entire season, the offense at least has be play somewhat competently, in other words, not like last year.

I would consider success for this team, for this year to be a top 5 defense and a middle of the pack offense, and somewhere around 7-9 to 9-7 record. The offense will be messy, a newly installed system, with young players and a stunted practice schedule, if the CBA isn't worked out in time, will all contribute to an overall sloppy offense, more than likely. Conversely, sloppiness does not necessarily have to coincide with overall ineptitude. I want to see the offense work, and to show glimpses that, given time and seasoning, that it will work with the personnel that we have on the team.

I expect our defense to take a step back this year. Or at least start off slow and stick with above average as we were last year. Learning a new playbook, schemes, etc will cause them to slow down on the field a bit due to thinking too much. I don't expect to see our defense flying around the field like the Ravens next year.

I think they should hover around .500.

If a organization wants to win and has good coaching....you can be competitive in today's NFL. Doesn't take years to build up to that.

agreed... I think QB play will be the difference maker. Coaches can only do so much on Sunday's.

No I think the Riveria regime is a good thing but with the CBA dragging out it will be difficult on not just Riveria but all new head coaches especially ones with young teams that are without a qb and 2nd round pick.

My frustration is with JR and Hurney letting the franchise go from a playoff caliber team to the cellar in one short year.

3-13 would mean the new staff did in one year what it took nine years for the old staff to accomplish- a one win increase over the previous staff's last year... Sarcasm aside, a 6-10 record while being competitive in most of the games would be a step in the right direction.
