If you want Dwill to stay....

Smitty and Dwill will most likely be too old before Cam starts contributing at a high level. I continue to wonder why people assume he will walk in and start. The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't and Cam sure as hell won't. If you want Newton fine, but I doubt these players are talking specifically about drafting Cam.

from what we saw, it looks like The Golden Calf of Bristol could of. Easy to argue he looked overall better than Bradford or Colt as a rookie. Arguement is there to be made.

reading too much into it. This is the same quote from earlier in the month, isn't it?

http://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/2011/04/deangelo-looking-for-a-qb.html

The full quote puts a totally different spin on it:

"I know they've had a lot of talk about the quarterback situation here in Miami, we've had a lot of talk about it in Charlotte too," Williams said. "It's all going to boil down to quarterbacks. in this league, the running game is predicated on whether you have a quarterback or not. If you don't have a quarterback, teams will stack the box and they force you to do what you do best. ...

"It's basically going to boil down to who has the better quarterback, or who's making the conscious effort to go out and find a quarterback or mold a quarterback they already have into a championship caliber quarterback."

He's comparing the two. Who has the QB they like? Who is building around a QB? Who "made a conscious effort" to find a QB?

He's not saying "If the Panthers don't draft Cam Newton, I'm leaving" he's saying "I want to go to the team with the best QB, and neither Miami nor Carolina are sure of what they're doing about a QB yet."

Exactly what I said in my earlier post. Never once did he mention drafting Cam.

Just because the players want a QB doesn’t mean they will draft a rookie. You only draft a QB if you evaluate him to be the QB your team needs not just because the players want him

It's not interesting to you that Beason, D-Will and Smitty want a change behind center? it's not like we're talking bench warmers here. Just find it funny how some people are ok with staying put with our current QB depth chart or getting another stop gap while our 3 best players think otherwise...

NOBODY is okay with staying put with our current QB depth chart. NOBODY.

We have said repeatedly we want to bring in another guy with a bit of experience to compete for the role. There are a ton of guys who look good out there and could potentially be a good fit. We have to do this whether we draft Newton or not because... do you really want to go into a season with only 1 guy who has decent experience under center?? Meeeh.

It's not about a "stop gap" it's about making the offense the best you can for now while you find that quarterback that fits what you want to do, and not reaching for one that you aren't sure of. Obviously if the Panthers are sure they'll draft the guy, but if not, I hope they don't.

It's no surprise these guys want someone other than Clausen under center. Who does want Clausen under center??

Beason also wanted VY so he's not best judge of talent or what's best for the team

Smitty seems perfectly happy when Moore is in there, he just hates Clausen

DWill just wants to have less pressure on him and the new offense and commitment to building around a QB would do that.

No need to bring in Cam

The box will be more stacked since Cam can't make most of the NFL throws required at this time and they will force him to beat them with his arm, which he won't be able to do.

I'm still confused why Dwill said a team would force another team to do what they do best. Maybe thats been the Panthers problem all along. Someone needs to tell them that is not the best gameplan.
