DT vs QB - Bust Rate

So being emotionally invested in your team isn't living in the "real world"?

Yeah, I think you need to do some research into what a "Real Fan" is.

There are things in this world that I allow to affect my emotions. The success or failure of my favorite football team isn't one of them.

Granted, it's not as much fun to watch games when the team I sheer for is losing, but that has about as longlasting an effect on me as it does when my french fries are overcooked.

It's a temporary bummer. That's it, and then back to the real world.

People are having visions of Ndamakong Suh when they look at Marcel Dareus and IMO its inaccurate. You watch his "Sports Science" and you see another freak DT in the making and nobody wants to miss on the next Suh. But the fact of the matter is that Suh was being talked about throughout his last two seasons as the most dominating defensive player in all of college...for two straight years. He was getting Heisman publicity going into his final year at Nebraska and actually met the expectations. The guy is/was a freak...and worthy of the praise.

DAREUS IS NOT SUH. IMO Suh is the reason Dareus is getting attention as the #1 pick and its just not realistic to think he will be as good. I think if we draft Dareus we get a very nice DT for the next decade (barring injury). But what we are expecting with the #1 pick is a perennial probowler that is going to get 10 sacks at the DT spot in his first year...which is a FREAK stat and stupid to think he can achieve.

There is no way in hell we are thinking of taking Marcel Dareus at #1 if Suh doesn't have the type of year he just had.

LOL, you guys spend too much time playing madden. Go get some fresh air.

I've been an hour away from home selling poo to people. fortunately, I'm an incredibly intelligent human being who can multi-task on here while I sell poo in my sleep..

also, take away the video game aspect and madden is all about the X's and O's.. and since most of you all have a football IQ in the TEENS, it would behoove you to check it out.

Really? I don't see man people comparing darius to suh.

I do see people attempting to make the arguement that cause he won't be a suh, he shouldn't go #1.

Weak sauce.

There is no doubt darius is a dominate player. Will he be as dominate as suhm who gives a fug. He's dominate enough to want to make him the center piece of any defensive line other than the lions.

I'm so tired of reading these weak ass arguements as to why we should ignore the best defensive tackle in the draft, which happens to be our biggest need.

Some people will say anything to make their guy look better.

If the panthers pick, fine......but that doesn't change the fact the darius is a beast of a defensive tackle, that would instantly improve our dline to one of the best in the league.

Let's ignore that, cause e have to get another rookie qb, as that will improve our already young qb situation, and you can only get franchise qbs in the first round. Doesn't that bullshit ever get old?

Again... Youth =/= talent.

Our young QBs (Clausen/Pike) lack what it takes to be starters. We can't fix this with Free Agency cause of the CBA... Richardson has said explicitly we won't deal until there is an agreement... so our only option is to go to the Draft.

And if you think we need a DT more than a QB... please... for the love of god... go look at our Team statistics for 2010. #18 Defense. Dead last offense. Dead last passing.

So since you're so unemotionally attached to this team as you say you are, I take it you have just as many posts on the "my french fries were overcooked" message board as you do on this one?

The difference is that it's much easier for a good QB to be come a #1 pick that a good DT. Many times, a good DT (or any other position lately) comes in place of a good QB at #1 only when the #1 team doesn't need a QB or no QB's in the class are worth it.

Also, how do you judge a bust vs. a success? The standards for every position are much different.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
