Taking a QB may put us in the cellar

Because you have all the answers and are the only one with balls enough to act on them!

lol

No, it's simply a mindset that has been here since the beginning. Why take a chance ( I said take a chance I'm not guaranteeing anything) when "the safe pick" route is so much more appealing.

For every Alex Smith & Jamarcus Russel I can show you a Dan Wilkinson or Russel Maryland. For very Calvin Johnson & Fitz I can show you Charles Rodgers & David Terrell. Every pick we make is a gamble. I am just willing to take a chance on Newton. Some aren't and so be it. We all want a Super Bowl...your way hasn't worked. The stop-gap vet way that is...

Even if we draft a QB, he wouldn't start until after the break in week 9. Like it or not, we will have to rely on Jimmy C or Tony Pike until then, at the very least.

I don't like our prospects at all next year. Given that the CBA negotiations will drag through the courts before both sides sit for a negotiated settlement, I don't see how Ron Rivera is going to install a defense in what will inevitably be a strike shortened pre-season (at best). Our coaches haven't even met with most of the players, much less trying to install an offense.

So, the first games will be horrific as our simplified basic offense is trying to score against well established teams with long running head coaches. I don't like our chances to win even one game before the bye week. After a crushing start like that it won't take much to send this team strait into the garbage. I think there is an outside chance that we win the Titans, Lions match ups only to have our hat handed to us by the Colts, Bucs, and Falcons, giving us a 2-10 record when the playoff race starts to heat up.

This season will be a mess, just like last season.

Nope. People around here strive for 7-9.

Stop-gap vet got us damn close, closer than anyone else has. I'd be willing to gamble on Gabbert, who's not a safe pick either but has all the tools to be the guy.

They are the very least. What could be worse than the prospect of starting Tony Pike?

I agree that next year is going to get pretty awful.

I don't think it will. I think once the CBA issue is resolved we see moves. Rivera/Chud are gonna move on quick. Pike imo is already as good as gone......Clausen will have to earn a spot.

I would hope that's the case, but I feel like the longer the lockout drags on our product on the field next year will get exponentially worse, and it seems like both sides are content to wait it out. It's a lot of young guys learning new systems on both sides of the ball and less time for new coaches to evaluate the players that they like. Our possible white knight (rookie QB) may be so far behind the eight ball that they don't even see the field this year.

The problem with that is trying to catch lighting in a bottle twice is pretty damn hard. People look at the run Delhomme made and things like Tom Brady being drafted in the 6th round and think it can be done again.

So it's simply a difference of opinion. When I see Gabbert I see David Carr. Just like you see Cam Newton in a different light than I do. Here's the thing...You can't teach winning (unless Charlie has started a class I dont know about) and that is what I like about Newton. He went for the throat against Oregon. That is exactly the kind of mentality I want and is needed around here. That is what the coaches want and have said. They want to dictate the games to the defense. I think Newton gives them a helluva a wepon to help them dictate games. From a playbook perspective...You can teach that...you can cater an offense to someones strength/weaknesses.

No offense but the wonderlic is pretty easy that is if these free sample ones are accurate examples I can usually get around 30. I think time has a lot to do with it because if I got a few more minutes I could ace it. But is it a test of intelligence? Not really intelligence comes in many forms and most of the time cannot be measured. We all know something someone else doesn't. The average is 21, I think Cam got 22 so I wouldn't call him stupid. Vince Young got a 6, now there is an argument for stupid (if you go by wonderlic).

But how much can they dumb down the playbook for Cam?

My god, y'all act like the guy can't even take a poo without instructions or something. Derek Anderson who isn't exactly known for his smarts on the field was able to become a pro bowler and learn Chudzinki's massive playbook. I'll be willing to bet that people who are saying the playbook needs to be "dumbed down" for Cam were the same people that thought it was ridiculous when it was leaked that Matt Moore wasn't starting for much of 2009 because he didn't know the playbook. Same for Deangelo Williams his first two years in the league.

This notion that Cam somehow has a football learning disability gives a lot of credence to the points King Taharqa has been making and getting attacked for.
