Gantt: Hurney looking for two firsts

Gnatt kinda mis represented this one. The required compensation for signing a franchised player without working a trade with the team that owns the players rights are two first rounders.

Hurney just stated the obvious any team can sign him for two first round pics without even consulting the Panthers.

Hurney said that we wouldn't be trading peppers and if someone wanted him they would have to give up the 2 1st rounders and that would be the only way we trade him.

Actually the article didn't say Hurney was looking for 2 1st rounders to trade Peppers.

During a conference call, Panthers GM Marty Hurney is stressing the notion that they're waiting for franchise-tagged DE Julius Peppers to solicit offers, and if anyone wants to pony up the two first-round picks required under the CBA, they're willing to consider matching or not.

In other words if another team wants him, they will have to go about aquiring him through the rules set up in the CBA pertaining to signing a franchised player. Peppers is now going to have to convince a team to part with 2 1st round picks in order to not play in Carolina next season. He better be ready to sign a contract for about half of what that Panthers offered him for that to happen.

And yes, I love how Hurney is handling this. He's not even considering trading Peppers which is going to drive Peppers price down just like that "list" and other comments from Peppers almost drove down the Panthers trade value of Peppers. Very nice work today in the Panthers front office.

i dont think we could get 2 first rounders...i could see a deal close to allens...but the next few weeks will be good.

Two first won't be offered by anyone. I believe the last idiot who signed a franchised player withot working a trade was Dom Capers. The going rate is a first and a second or a first and two later round picks.

No he didn't he said no trades are on the table and any team is free to sign Pepers under the CBA agreement of two firs rounder compensation. This is a captain obvious statement.

they aren't looking to trade Pep for two first.....that is what is required to take Pep now that he has the tag. Hurney was just stating a fact and that they aren't looking to trade now. Just typical positioning the Panthers are doing....trying to act uninterested and not in a hurry. No different than the stuff Peppers agent has been doing in recent days......
