Gabbert on ESPN

D-Will's comments did not scream "draft a rookie!" to me.

I don't know either guys personally, but I'm willing to wager that Steve Smith's going to treat a rookie the same way he has every other rookie no matter who they are. He wants to compete and win and he'll believe a rookie will do that when he sees it, I would think. I do not think he's sitting around going "If they don't take Newton I'm gone!"

I could see telling the players that their opinion on who to draft doesn't mean jack.

They're players, not scouts. Scouts and personnel people often don't even like it when coaches get involved in the process, much less players.

Didn't say it did but it most definitely says something how our 3 best players want a quarterback yet some people are ok with stop-gaps or giving Moore/Clausen another shot

Well its' a good thing we don't draft players oh how good their memory is, and moreso on how they perform on the field, Gabbert win the memory contest would you like to debate skill set and their on field performance?

You don't think forgetting something about protections, routes, hot reads or other factors of a particular play affects on-field performance?

Not a Gabbert fan either, but the notion that brain power is irrelevant for a QB is dead wrong.

From Jon Beason's Twitter, regarding quarterbacks...

@Omarkelly, Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen are our qbs. I'm riding with them. The draft is a roll of the Dice.

And if you think Ron Rivera's the type to let any player dictate to him what he should do, I'd say you haven't been paying attention.

“It’s all going to boil down to quarterbacks,” Williams told WQAM-AM, via NFL.com. “In this league, the running game is all predicated on if you have a quarterback or not. If you don’t have a quarterback, teams stack the box and they force you to do what you do best.”

Do me a favor and find me the word "Newton" or "draft" anywhere in that quote.

just because Panthro read into his quote and posted one line of his interview doesn't mean that is what he wanted.

He's talking about comparing Miami to Charlotte, and also says this:

"It's basically going to boil down to who has the better quarterback, or who's making the conscious effort to go out and find a quarterback or mold a quarterback they already have into a championship caliber quarterback."

Just doesn't scream Cam newton to me... at all. Heh.

You know damn well that came after his comments about wanting Cam Newton because he had that "it" factor. Probably was told to say that doesn't really matter we all know he wants a QB was lobbying for Luck and Cam most of the offseason.

Once again It probably wont who knows but it sure as hell is interesting not like we're talking back ups or bench warmers who think we need a change behind center.

The following line that he left out...

"It's basically going to boil down to who has the better quarterback, or who's making the conscious effort to go out and find a quarterback or mold a quarterback they already have into a championship caliber quarterback."

Taking that as "draft Newton or I'm gone" is a stretch even Mister Fantastic couldn't make. "Go out and find" sounds equally like free agency as it does draft (arguably more so).

When in the offseason did Jon Beason say anything about Andrew Luck? He may have but I've looked and I can't find it.

And how exactly do "we all know" he was "lobbying for a QB most of the offseason"? Do you have any actual evidence of that or is that just your take (same as "he was told to say that" is your take)?

The guy who mentioned Luck was Brandon LaFell (who only said "he dat deal") and LaFell wants the team to draft his former teammate, Patrick Peterson.

Any given day you can take any quote and 100 people will interpret it differently...all of them incorrectly
