Gabbert on ESPN

Jackofalltrades

Recommended Posts

Gabbert had a 44.3 completion percentage on 3rd downs. For comparison:

Sam Bradford 67.2%

Mark Sanchez 63.9%

Josh Freeman 60.8%

Matthew Stafford 58.3%

Matt Ryan 53.1%

Those are all a far cry from what Gabbert put up in a pretty pass friendly offense.

And Newton only completed 7.7% more than that at the combine vs. no defense, no game pressure, no elements, etc.

Do you know the formula for predicting success at QB in the NFL? Is there a direct correlation between college stat and stardom? Have you considered variables, such as OL strength, WRs, play calling, average distance for the first down, etc.?

The only three things that I have seen that seem to be the marks of successful NFL QBs:

Arm: Accuracy/strength

Leadership/character

Football acumen/work ethic

Newton and Gabbert have questions in each area. How anyone can know that only 44% of the QBs taken first overall since 1998 (marty hurney) have become consistent NFL starters, see these flags, and still feel good about drafting Newton is beyond me.

nobody looks at completion % during the combine its about hitting certain spots. and yet you bring this up in every thread. Gabbert is not that bad of a prospect and if the FO likes him, than he has to be the pick. just hopes he he gets rid of those nerves and jumpieness.

To those who keep saying he did nothing stat wise in college need to also look at his soph year. He actually had a really good year that year. So its not like he never performed in college.

He had a better year in his soph year than Matt Ryan ever had.

40 TD and only 18 INT. 7000 yds and a percentage of over 60% in college. I can live with that.

But that was against JUCO, oh wait...

And Newton didn't even know one call from college, pathetic.

Well its' a good thing we don't draft players oh how good their memory is, and moreso on how they perform on the field, Gabbert win the memory contest would you like to debate skill set and their on field performance?
