Jerry Rice: Accuracy, not race, the issue with Cam Newton

maybe because it isnt an issue with them. Calling someone a "special player" is pretty high praise. Has Elway ever said that about another Panther QB before?

What on earth are you gonna blabber about once we draft the guy? :arf:

Oh, so we're going to play football 101?

A hitch means you're running out, then turning back to the line of scrimmage to get the defender behind you for a short to mid gain.

And that's what the cat in the video did.

JFC... they didn't even show who threw the ball... so why would I assume it was from Newton?

You idiots totally took my comment out of context. "His man" was Cam. It's not my fault you morons can't see how I was making a point about accurate passing vs. good receiving. SHEESH.

Accurate means you put the ball where your receiver can catch it, and the defender can't intercept it.

{edit: I edited the rebuttal post to CLARIFY what I was trying to say, since you bitches want to make assumptions}

What you described is a curl pattern. A hitch is where you don't move off the line of scrimmage and the QB gets the snap and immediately throws you the ball. You just failed football 101.

No, that is not what the "cat" in the video did. The play was designed with three vertical routes so the corner had to choose which route to cover since it's assumed the safety will cover the guy running right at him. He takes inside, Cam throws outside, he takes outside, Cam throws inside. They start in a bunch formation to the right. Outside and inside receiver off the ball with the guy in the middle on the ball (that means he's on the LOS). At the snap, the middle receiver comes across the middle then turns it up right at the safety, drawing his attention, the outside receiver takes it hard at the corner then breaks it off towards the hash keeping the corner's interest in him, the inside receiver goes roughly 2 yards up field then turns into an out pattern. This accomplishes a few things. For 1 it lets the corner that is covering the post think he will stay in the flat and a linebacker will cover him and 2 it gets a quick slot receiver in one on one coverage with a linebacker. After the inside receiver sells the quick out, he turns it into a chair patter or out and up and turns it up the sideline. At this point, the corner is already committed to covering the post pattern and if the receiver is covered at all it will be by a linebacker that he can run away from. In this case, no one even covers the wheel route because the linebacker is staring in the backfield. It's a very basic play and many high schools run this. If Cam hits that man in stride he likely streaks up the sideline for a touchdown but the ball is thrown so poorly he has to turn around to catch it therefor giving the corner time to get off his man and make a play after the catch. Sure it was complete but it was a terrible fuking pass.

No, we didn't take your comment out of context. You said the QB threw a hallmark pro-like pass, obviously trying to build up Cam. It's just sad that the best pass on the whole video wasn't by Cam and had Cam in a position he is better suited for.

I somewhat agree with your definition of accurate. I think it means you put the ball in a position where your receiver can catch it and make a play after the catch. In the NFL or if those receivers weren't wide the fug open, many of those passes would be intercepted because of how poorly they were thrown.

No need for the name calling because you don't know what you are talking about. If I were you I'd go back to pretending I was a lawyer or worked with lawyers.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TRY AND DEBATE MY ANALYSIS OF THAT PLAY IN QUESTION

OMG.... LOLOLOLL...

A curl and a hitch are almost identical... depending on the playbook of the coach... the only difference is the distance run.

Hitch Route

I don't think those questioning his accuracy are racist. He has some issues there that can hopefully be fixed with better footwork. It's those that question his work ethic, worry about how he will handle the money, or exaggerate his off the field issues to an extreme that raise suspicion.

One poster from here (at least they had a similar username) compared Cam to Carruth and Talib on Gantt's twitter page. That kind of comparison is unfounded and makes me suspect a racist motive. I find it hard to believe that none of the Cam criticism in the media is motivated by race. I also find it hard to believe that all or even most of it is.

Yes... it was. I couldn't tell the distance he ran... so I called it a Hitch... you are now saying its a curl... ok... it might have been..

But here's the important thing...

IT WASN'T A fugING STREAK ROUTE LIKE YOU SAID IT WAS.

The rest of what you typed is meaningless bullpoo, cause you're already trying to back track.

No, I was typing up notes quickly when I watched it the first time, he was clearly streaking up the sideline but it wasn't a streak.

When I re-watched and diagnosed the whole play, it was a chair route which ends up with the receiver streaking up the field. You couldn't be any more wrong on this and it's funny. People who have any clue about football will know which person is right and which person is talking out of their ass.

I dissected the whole play probably better than Cam Newton can and you had to google videos on what a hitch is.

Quit while you aren't that far behind

OH I LOVE IT..

You were TYPING TOO FAST?!?

When I re-watched

LOL, after I called you on your BS you mean...

Quit while you aren't that far behind

While I'm behind?!?

Stop pretending like you are the master football demigod dude. You're just another fuging poster on the huddle, and you don't know as much about football as you say you do.

I'm worried about the work ethic and how they will handle money for almost any player. If you are already a millionaire, why work hard when you probably won't renegotiate for 4-5 years.
