Jerry Rice: Accuracy, not race, the issue with Cam Newton

Is it? I mean we didn't allow african-americans to vote, sit in the front of a bus, use the same bathrooms, eat at certain places, and the list can go on... that seems pretty extreme to me.

Meanwhile the Germans were gassing people and started a World War. I still can't tell a Jew apart from a "normal" white person, so I still don't understand the basis of that. Please....don't make me defend white Americans..

Actually, I don't have a problem with that comment, given history.

I do have a problem with the notion that because there was a load of racism in the past, all of us today somehow need to be punished for what happened in the past.

(and anyone denying that attitude is out there is just as wrong as anyone denying that racism exists)

not to mention a lot of "white" americans hadn't even immigrated to the US till after slavery and had a lot to do with the civil rights movement.

I'll take the word of a guy like Warren Moon who's actually played QB in the NFL and lived thru the experience vs. a guy like Jerry Rice who never played with one in the NFL. Respect his opinion, but he's in a dream world if he doesnt think the identity of a QB doesnt play into his perception. The QB position is basically the tool the NFL uses to market the game to certain fans. Change that dynamic, and the NFL is basically the NBA.

No racial bias in your words at all, pft!

There's plenty of discussion about Gabbert in the Media but its about how hes the most ready ive heard no one mention or question his off the field behavior. I see chefs post theres a big difference between being arrested for and being charged and found guilty. Do you need me to explain that to you also?

How much discussion have you seen about A J Green's jersey selling incident or Marcell Dareus two game suspension for improper agent contact?

Shall we chalk lack of discussion of those incidents up to raci...oh wait :sosp:

Isolated incidents, all of them. Were there more incidents on record, the concerns would be bigger. That's why Newton's record gets discussed more, because there's more of it.

On the flipside, Mallett's drug rumors got a fair amount of play even before the recent incident.

Of course they did I cosign both points about the offenses they came from an the fact that they both made plays with there legs a lot. My point is I see Cam as a true dual threat QB being a superior passer than The Golden Calf of Bristol. Best example of A true complete dual threat QB imo is 2010-2011 Vick because he became more balanced.

I don't agree with that fight always being associated with him for the simple fact that I found out about the fight ON HERE from Sam Mills Fan I think. Not on NFL Network/ESPN where they portrayed him as squeaky clean when debating who should go number 1 overall between him and Newton. Then later on it started to be brought up by scouts but not anywhere nearly as much as Cam's past. With that said It doesn't really matter to me both issues happened, people can learn from there mistakes & mature.

See above.

How many people here even know about those things?

Isolated incidents get left behind. It's when something else happens that people's radar goes up.

So Mallett's rumors (with no related arrests) are a bigger deal than Newton being arrested? Is that it?

Exactly the kind of response I expected :D

And the stuff on Green and dareus isn't Rumor. It's documented. there's also the accusation of Peterson getting pay-for-play (unproven).

But it only matters if they're quarterbacks, right?

Exactly why I hate when they question his work ethic/leadership.

He won the Heisman and led his team to the National Title on athleticism alone. He did not use his brain. He did not display leadership. His O linemen dont like him and hate playing for him. He doesnt have a work ethic. He just gets up out of bed in the morning slobbering and starts running people over all day.
