Jerry Rice: Accuracy, not race, the issue with Cam Newton

While there might not be as much racism in football today, none of us can say there definitely isn't. However, there is a level of discrimination in football, how else can you explain why ever black QB is compared to McNabb,Vick, Russell, Cunningham and every white WR is compared to Wes Welker & Wayne Chrebet.

Thats human ignorance, not racism.

How did I know I would have to explain this to you? What I meant was how many times have you heard about Blaines incident in popular magazines and national television? 0. Newton wasnt charged with no damn intimidating a witness you got that from the Nacrockski article I looked for it and couldnt find that information anywhere esle. You always bring up you dont like any QB thats cool with me.

How much discussion is there about Gabbert at all on this board (or in the media for that matter) compared to how much there is of Newton?

And see Chef's post above.

He doesn't reply to me remember. He only replys to your (or is it our?) Scot persona

Comparing him to The Golden Calf of Bristol will fall under hate/not actually watching him play last season. Like I said I feel he's more advanced throwing the ball at this stage than a The Golden Calf of Bristol due to him not having to tweak his throwing motion. That's the main reason why I don't agree with that comparison.

As far as the Gabbert character concerns stuff to hear some tell it he's squeaky clean prospect. That drunken bar fight is rarely talked about by the media yet Cam's issues from 3 years ago are...

Keeping it objective here: Did Newton and The Golden Calf of Bristol play in similar non-pro-style systems and both run a lot, or not? Because if the answer is that they did, the comparison is valid.

The throwing motion thing is a valid point, but doesn't negate the system transition question. It just means that The Golden Calf of Bristol had an additional issue that Newton doesn't.

And like I said above, we barely talk about Gabbert at all here, for positive or negative. But the bar fight was always in his profile, same as the Newton stories were.

Waiting for Blackcatgrowl and Panthro's rebuttal

On what? Your analysis? I appreciated it. You should do that more on the huddle.

Even if he is off the mark a bit does he still give his WR's opportunities to make plays with the ball? I remember Steve Smith having to jump 10 ft in the air to catch Delhomme's passes.

That doesn't make Delhomme accurate does it? No, of course not.

Many of those throws you saw were to very wide open guys. You don't get that in the NFL so his ball placement will be even more important. The post he threw that I gave him good accuracy on could be picked in the NFL by a corner undercutting it but since his receiver is so open he gets a pass and it looks great on the stat sheet.

These are things that worry me when transitioning to the next level. The corner patter that he threw towards the hash is a mistake high school QBs shouldn't make. You throw that ball to the sideline where the worst that happens is an incompletion.

The sad part is that is a highlight video and the majority of those throws just weren't good. Do you even want me to do a writeup of footage that already includes the not good throws?

Eesh.

Thanks It makes me wonder what Luck and Gabbert would look like comparitively.
