Jerry Rice: Accuracy, not race, the issue with Cam Newton

I personally wouldn't trash it and would welcome some more analysis of him. I would appreciate it.

Are you doing a game as well or else there isn't a point.

If we can't point out what we see different on the same plays it's worthless. It takes me a long time to do those and I really don't want to waste my time.

Not as predictable as the way some of us reacted to the notion Cam Newton would be our draft pick this offseason. The manner in which some of us carried ourselves and put our paranoia and fear on display was easy to predict. Some of yall really are out of touch with how this football team is perceived. Yall think its just me. LMAO!!!

Is your name Phillip? Just curious.

Here is my standard: People saying this is a weak QB class are Full of $(%&(. You cannot evaluate or put a grade on a draft class until years down the road!!!! Using Luck not being in the draft as a reason this class is weak has no basis on anything factual. The draft is 50/50 at best. That includes DT and especially WR's.

It's a judgment call and a valid opinion, same as yours.

We'll know whether it's right or wrong down the road, but that doesn't mean people can't make judgments now (unless you want to put the draft analysts out of a job).

Why? You are the one that said it can only be done by watching game tape. I thought differently. The onus is on you.

I'd assume so.

You are right, but I chose that game because everyone watched it. I've seen his "body of work" and my conclusions aren't much different.

You do realize that I stopped my writing after the second drive in the 3rd quarter so MOST of my analysis was when he was healthy, but lets ignore that.

You asked me to do a write up when you wouldn't do the same. On my first one no one actually debated anything they just called me a hater and said he had no issues in the whole game.

If you would like to do a write up of that game I'd love to also, but I'm not wasting my time doing it alone to have the Cam fans just trash it and not talk to it's points.

The second you post your write up, I will post mine.

JFC... /facepalm

Tons of proof he is an accurate passer, in one video.

And that's a legitimate opinion.

My opinion's legit too. It just happens to be different.

If you can accept that with screaming racism or hate, then we're fine.

The Racism/hate argument gets brought up by me during a few situations that I will point out. Like when people say he's a one year wonder that's discrediting the work he put in last season. When they question his leadership & work ethic after what he did at Blinn/Auburn.

The blind comparisons to running QB's like Young Mike Vick, YY or The Golden Calf of Bristol, when in mine and Mayocks opinion he's more of a Big Ben. Or the comparisons to bust QB's like J. Russell due to some strange idea that he'll get lazy after he gets paid smh. Last but not least the direct Nawrocki comments mostly the fake smile having not stepped foot in a room with Cam. This is all hate imo that is somewhat racially motivated but that's just how I look at it.

Well I thought the whole point was to have a discussion and if I watch the tape, break it down, provide commentary on every play and you don't do those things and reply back with but he had a good comp% the discussion is over and is meaningless.

Go read the NC one and you'll have plenty to talk about. I don't need to do one for your amusement.

I'm interested in football discussions and that would not lead to one without effort on your part.

Im gonna be serious for a minute. I understand when people like Mav express concerns about accuracy and footwork. I know he's not perfect no QB rookie is. I understand KT when he calls out people on racism for playing up the stereotypes of young black men and black qb's. I've heard Todd McShay and other tv guys along with huddlers say he's gonna act up when he gets his money, he's a thug, only compare him to black qb's and the unsuccessful ones at that. We here about a college student cheating on test his freshman year while at the same time you damn near have to hire a private investigator to find out Blaine was drinking underage getting in street fights. I dont think cheating on test or buying a stolen laptop is worse than public intoxication and assaulting someone but if I had to call one a thug I'd go with the latter. Not here but other message boards like ESPn I'm seen plenty of blatant racists comments like I dont want no black qb for my team or Russell comparisons and plenty of racial slurs. I dont think everybody that dpesnt want Cam is racists but the ones use these stereotypes as factors against him put themselves in that category. No offense to white people but unless you grew up and hang with black people all day it's unlikely you will notice the subtle racism in america. To most white racism is over anyone bringing it up is making excuses and playing the race card. There's plenty of racism here in america. There's still racist white people, black people, asain, spanish, ect... I respect jerry's opinion and agree somewhat, but I think he's talking more about the football mechanics accusations. Warren Moon was talking about the work ethic, personality and intelligence accusations.

Not for "our" amusement buddy. For YOUR credibility. Cause in the past 4 months, you've done a bang up job of flushing yours.

By the way...

Newton is being considered worthy of the #1 pick by many... many... analysts now.

Thats because Panthers are thinking of taking him and analysts hate to be wrong.

I wouldn't say all of those things are racially motivated tho. Many people get called one year wonders, white and black. Comparing him to The Golden Calf of Bristol, who is white, can't be racial. I agree comparing him to other black QBs without evidence that is racial. The fake smile thing could be a number of things. Could be racial, he could be jealous Cam won a heisman, could've been trying to sell the magazine as some think, ect.
