I once read an article that said the one thing every superbowl team has ever had in common was luck... and it's true.

Nobody should be satisfied with what the team did under John Fox, but to deny the fact we were a pretty damn good team a few of those years is very silly.

We need a quarterback, that is undeniable. Again, the difference is some of us think we need to get that quarterback THIS DRAFT, some of us don't.

The John Fox era was not successful. It was lucky. You people who think a "successful" organization was what we had in Carolina in the past 7 years really needs to consider what being a champion and being dominant means.

Our passing game was broken last year. Teams put 8 men in the box. With cameron, it will be the same. He is not a true passer but an athlete with a threat to run the ball. Unless he can consistently stretch the field with accurate downfield passes, he will not be effective, IMO. Cameron's not an accurate passer, teams will give him a chance to beat them with the pass and focus on stopping his running ability. If he cannot find a way to hit a moving target accurately and consistently, he will not succeed.

All this tells me is you're happy with inconsistency and 2nd place. Getting into the playoffs should NOT be a point of satisfaction as a fan.

There is only one team that is successful every year. That's the team that wins the Super Bowl. We have never done that. We've never had back to back winning seasons in those years. Better than some does not = success. It just means your the best of the losers.

JR recognized we have to get out of this "It is what it is." attitude about not having consistency. That's why Fox is in Denver now.

Yes, I know he was in a spread offense....

But he had a really high rating 182 (one of the highest of all time), He had a 66 % comp percentage with a YPA over 10 yards.... 30 touchdowns compared to only 7 picks in the toughest conference in college football.... He's shown plenty of accuracy on the deep throws.... His issues on other routes (aka combine and so forth) isn't his accuracy, its his timing and footwork.

You bet I'm happy when our team reaches the playoffs. That doesn't mean I'm *satisfied*. I can be happy for the team and still want more. I get pumped and excited and hopeful. The disappointment of losses sucks. I remember watching the Arizona loss on TV and I was heartbroken... I couldn't believe what happened, and I certainly was NOT satisfied. But I was still hopeful for the future, because I thought... hell, this team just made the playoffs, went 12-4. I was happy that we made the playoffs but I was sure we could do better next year.

I'm sorry you can't be happy for the team if they aren't winning Superbowls. must kinda suck. I certainly wasn't happy that we didn't have back to back winning seasons, but considering what we DID do I do give some respect to the early part of Fox's reign here. But it wasn't enough. I wanted him gone in 2009, even, but I don't make those decisions.

I want a team that wins consistently, year in, year out, and I want a team that wins championships. I recognize we need great QB play for that to happen, and if we want to be competitive every year we need a guy we can count on. I thought Moore was that guy; I hoped Clausen was. I was wrong about both, at least for last season.

I just don't know that Cam Newton is that guy, either. If I was sure he was, of course I'd want to draft him.

Yes, those were some fun years. I will always remember Foster's run against Philly and Smith's game ending catch against the Rams (not to mention Janet Jackson in the Super Bowl).

I just don't think that sort of team can be consistently successful anymore. We were gutsy and motivated and fun to watch, but it is time to move on from Foxball.

A cold shiver runs down my spine whenever I think about the FA QBs we might bring in to lead our team next season. The only thing worse would be letting Moore or pickles take the lead. We're between a rock and a hard place, and yet Hurney keeps his job. He's good with contracts after all.

The kid in me wants us to draft Cam Newton. I want to see that big 'African American' out there scrambling around and making something happen. Freeman shed our LBs/defensive lineman and burned us (and most other teams) down field with good but not great accuracy. But Newton can't do that? The truth is we don't know. We're all in the same boat. Like a kid on Christmas Eve who eyes a massive present under the tree. Could be the greatest gift of your life, or a crushing disappointment.

The adult in me has come to terms with the likelihood that no matter who we draft, next season will be painful early on, and then boring once we're mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs. Newton, Dareus, idc who we draft, pain is on the way. So do we gamble, or go for the safer pick? As an adult, I usually take the safer route, but the kid in me wants Cam.

From where I sit, I'd rather take a chance on a franchise QB and miss than not take the chance and watch him become a franchise QB for someone else.

I have not been sold on Newton, but at least this article argues the point of drafting him better than most I have seen. Newton will not come in this year and turn around the team..but he would bring excitment. He also brings something Carolina has never had - a QB who can run with the football. After getting burned by Vick for years, and now getting chewed up by Josh Freeman, I would think most fans would want a running QB. The closer we get to the draft, the more I want one.
