Against all options, Newton makes most sense for Carolina

fug it. Point being, some of you are just so against change its remarkable. Your entire argument is based off what worked in the NFL in the PAST and what this franchise has done in the past. Doing something new and against the grain of what we always have done in order to keep UP with the change happening in the NFL makes you uncomfortable.

Delhomme was a bench warmer. Had the most amazing receiver this organization ever saw, which catapulted him into success. Once people figured out it was Smith, and not Delhomme, what happened? Years of .500 or below records.

This may be one of the most ridiculous posts out of the entire bunch. The fact that you believe Steve Smith alone took us to the Super Bowl, then to an NFC Championship game, then to a 2nd seed in another playoff, is absolutely absurd.

I know some people on here have an obsession with Steve Smith, but please, get real.

There's reports that Jacksonville's ready to move on from Garrard.

Mike Brown is fighting Palmer, but Marvin Lewis wants to let him go. If they get a new quarterback, it might get a little easier (happened once before with Esaiason).

Some of Garrard's best work came when Shula was his QB coach. And Palmer's been coached by Ken Zampese, con of Ernie, mentor of Norv Turner, the guy who every single coach on our offensive staff is connected to.

No, we may not get the chance at them, but again I'll take a stopgap QB over throwing a rookie to the wolves without any reservation.

So basically you'd rather sign an aging & mediocre QB than draft a potential franchise QB?

You know what sounds stupid?

Bringing in a bench warmer to be our starter. To suggest we fugin Jake Delhomme this organization AGAIN. Stupid. P-E-R-I-O-D.

So, to prove your point that a backup won't bring us success, you use the example of a backup quarterback who took us to the Super Bowl in his first year, and nearly won...

You were never on the debate team in school, were you? :nonod:

We ALL agree on that. The difference is that some of us aren't convinced that Cam is that guy. It doesn't mean we don't need that player, it's that we shouldn't try to take a guy if we aren't sure he is.

Pretty much.

So if DTs bust more often, how are people who want a DT afraid of talking a risk?

YEAH man! If you're not for Cam Newton, you're FOR JOHN FOX! BURN THE HERETICS!

nevermind that the only thing EVERYONE on this forum agrees on is that we need a franchise QB here.

The difference between you and I?

I am unconvinced that Cam Newton is that person, whereas you are so convinced you'll attack anyone who disagrees with you and call them old and unable to change because you seem completely unwilling to accept that two people can just disagree on something without one of them have some kind of deficiency.

Carolina trades down & gets 4-5 picks that turn in to really good players. Team has moderate success. Team that drafts Cam Newton now has the Lombardi Trophy & a superstar. Still look like a win?

Oh! We get to make up what could possibly happen!? Neat!

Carolina trades down & get 5 players that they wouldn't have had a shot at. 2 turn out to be HoFers. 1 is a 4 time probowler. 2 are solid players. The Panthers win 5 Super Bowls (starting in 2014) & become the first team to 3peat.

Newton goes to the Cards & has a stellar rookie year leading them to the NFC Championship where they fall to the more experienced Packers. In '12, The Cards are 10-0 & look unstoppable until Newton is making one of his highlight reel runs when he plants just as a line backer hits him low from his blind side & sadly ends a promising career....

Yeah I'm still calling it a win.

It proves your method of getting this franchise to a superbowl is outdated and no longer works in the modern NFL but you are too scared to try something different.

Wrong again :nonod:

As mentioned (several times) I agree that we need a franchise QB.

I disagree that any of the guys in this year's draft give us that.

Is this really that difficult to understand?

When was the last time zone-read QB played in, much less won, a Super Bowl?

What part of "Once they figured out it was Steve Smith" did you not comprehend?

What part of "Once they figured out it was Steve Smith" did you not comprehend?

The part where Smith was still extremely productive when it was Moore throwing him the ball?

Or did people just "forget" about Steve Smith in late 2009 and early 2010?

Or how about the fact that arguably Jake's best year came while Smith was out for the entire season?

What part of "Once they figured out it was Steve Smith" did you not comprehend?

Since a single Wide Receiver can do so much for a team, that must be why Minnesota played in the Super Bowl when they had both Randy Moss AND Cris Carter?

...

Oh wait.

Negative. I am not "so convinced" Newton is that person. I AM CONVINCED its time to take a chance/gamble for the sake of actually being great and it just so happens that he is the only person worth taking that chance on due to eveeeerrything I've already stated. Attack? no sir, all you choose to do is view my statements as "Cam hugging" and therefore that makes you close minded. I am making statements based on what is best for this franchise, right here, right now, with the draft looming and our team and fans desperately needing a jolt of life in it.
