He might bust but the chance of that happening is much lower than a QB that is considered a huge project.

Get real guy

Key word is chance. You and I have no idea what the possibilities are. That "chance" applies to every player.

How do you know? You are not Newton or Luck. Neither has stepped foot on an NFL football field. Until that happens that is your opinion and it is speculation.

Correct, but you can look at certain things as indicators of future success and you can look to people who have done this as their career and listen to what they have to say. You can predict how someone will transition to the NFL based on the skillset they currently have and the skillset needed to be a successful NFL QB. If they match or are close, you can draw the conclusion that he/she will likely be a successful NFL QB and that lowers their risk factor.

You can also look at QBs that do not have that skillset but have the skillset that resembles QBs who have failed to make the transition and if their sets are similar it increases the risk factor. Also, if that player doesn't really have any of the tools of a successful NFL QB it raises it even more.

So while you can never 100% predict their success, there are ways to increase your chance of success by looking at certain indicators. Those indicators all point to the fact that Luck would likely be a more successful QB than Newton.

TRD, I know exactly what you mean, but there are so many players that experts and people say have all the tools to be successful and fail. I mean I don't like to bag on Clausen but he flat out sucked. Yet he was considered by some to be a top ten pick. It goes both ways. Clausen is not the only example of this I just used him because we are all very familiar with the situation.

Very true, that's why I would rather take my chances on passing on QB this year, see what we have, and readdress next year (if it's Luck, great...if not, that's fine too).

Which pretty much means another year of sucking which I do not want. Unless we bring in a bunch of FA's and a Vet QB who will be in the same situation as a QB we draft this year since they will have to learn our massive 900 page playbook. After last year and the fact that we have the #1 pick I want at least some hope for the future even if it has a chance of back firing.

What if we play well? That means we may have a option at QB already. What's wrong with getting a FA QB?

Wrong. Very few people thought Clausen was a top 10 pick.

Clausen didn't have near the tools that Luck has, neither does Cam.

To think that those two have even remotely the same chances of success in the NFL is silly

hoping for the opportunity to draft Andrew Luck next year. Thanks for wishing the Panthers would have the worst record in the NFL for a second straight season.

Go find another team to cheer for.... You won't be missed.

I am not cheering for Luck or to lose one game. I do not want to take any QB at #1 this year though. None are worth it

The Panther fan base couldn't survive another year of being the worst team in the league. If we were to go 2-14 again, the Bobcats would be getting more love in Charlotte than the Panthers. You'd lose the young generation of fans completely after working so hard to get them to like the Panthers in the first place. We would be right there with Jacksonville in terms of fan passion if not worse.
