Ugh. And what a sad, sad class it is. The options at number 1 this year would be lucky (no pun intended) to even be in the top 20 next year.

I know we should draft a QB at number 1 this year, but I don't think any of this year's "first rounders" are franchise changers, or even regular Pro Bowlers. Luck, on the other hand, I think is a franchise guy.

~~edit~~

To be clear, for those who didn't read my first post, I don't want us to take a nose dive this year. I don't think Luck will be #1 next year.

How do you know? Fans in general are often wrong when it comes to accurately scouting prospect qbs. What if in 5 years, the '11 qb class proves to be one of the strongest classes of the last 3 decades, while the '12 class proves to be as bad as the '07 class?

If we pass on the qb's this year. People will still be saying "lets wait and draft one next year, it's a weak class!" this time come 2012.

Some just can't fathom taking risks. A bunch of John Fox clones. We'd keep journeymen qb's stockpiled until the team finally got moved to L.A.

Agreed. That is always the case. I actually remember some Falcon fans prior to the '08 draft claiming they "wanted to wait until the '09 draft, the qb class will be so much better then". A ton of Lion fans were doing the same thing in '09 about '10. Same with the Rams fans last year. That grass is always greener, I guess.

Who in the hell cheers for them lose that's some bullsh1t. I wanted the number 1 pick at the END of the year after suffering through this season but I still hoped for our young squad to show promise for the future throughout the season.

I would love to see how many people giving Pie to the op (or posting in a supporting manner of the main point) actually cheered for the team to lose this season.

Damn straight I cheered for us to lose. We weren't making the playoffs and our QBs sucked last year. I wanted us to suck so badly that we would be in the position to take the best QB available.

unfortunately for us, jesus stayed in school.

Luck will almost certainly come out next year...the only reason he stayed was to graduate and he will be a senior this year in terms of academics (redshirt junior for athletics) so he will graduate after this year. And he is a Manning caliber QB...it's safe to say he will be te number one pick next year...so for anyone hoping we get him next year is also hoping we have the worst record and the number one pick again. Why be a fan if you hope for a team to lose???

I'm just curious to know how many Stanford games these Luck die hards have actually seen? I get the feeling that it was talked about so much how awesome Luck was and people are just spouting it off.

"I really think you haven't seen the best of him yet, and that's what's so exciting about him, he has the ability to make every throw in the book. He has certain characteristics of the very, very good quarterbacks that have played this game."

"If you had to ask me right now who is going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft, I would say it's etched in stone it's going to be Jake Locker,"

"If he's not the No. 1 pick, it's an upset."

All these quotes from last year this time about Jake Locker...anything can happen in the span of a year...Andrew Luck might need Tommy John surgery, or he might develop or drinking problem, or he simply might not be as good as you internet guys think he is.

Can't really blame anybody for hoping to get a quarterback the caliber of Luck next year, especially given that we have need at that spot.

The hoping to lose big though? Yeah, that I have an issue with. I don't want another year like last year.

People forget you are allowed to trade up in the draft too, and if we got a lot of our other issues fixed this year I'd have zero problem with offering another team a significant pick and/or player package next year to move up and grab Luck (or another franchise quality QB).
