Gross: We're Done

On the phone with Jordan Gross right now. His first words: "We're done."

He said the deal was signed about 10 minutes ago.

We’re done,” he said with a sigh. “I signed it about 10 minutes ago, and I’m glad to be through with it.” Gross admitted the negotiation was much tougher this year, after he turned in an All-Pro season at left tackle. That ratcheted up the market from what would have been a $7 million per year deal a year ago to the $9 million per year range this year. He’ll make $30.5 million in the first three years of the deal, which sets a new benchmark for linemen in the league. When the final numbers are tallied, he’s also expected to be the highest-paid Panther ever.

"It was tough, because they had a number they wanted to stay within,” Gross said. “But if I go into the (free agent) market, the sky would have been the limit.

“I took a cut to stay here, but it was important for me to be in a place I wanted to be, and to make sure we were able to have a competitive team.”

Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross has confirmed that he's signed a six-year deal with the team.

"We're done, I want to confirm that," said Gross. "I'm ecstatic to be part of the Panthers."

According to sources, the deal is a frontloaded, six-year agreement with Gross that would pay him $30.5 million over the first three years of the deal – the biggest three-year payout ever to an offensive lineman.

    • I really like this draft, not really a reach or bad pick at all in the bunch. I can see every single player drafted making an impact this season with 3 definite starters and Evans that should get a ton of snaps at TE2.   NALO has all the skills and size you look for in a WR1 and should make an immediate impact on offense. Horn will return punts as a rookie and learn a lot techniques from AT.  Scourton has the size, skills and intensity to be a day 1 starter at Strong side OLB and make a noticeable impact for the defense.  Princely will see snaps but will take a little longer than Scourton to become a starter. Needs to add functional weight and strength to his frame to be a 3 down starter.  Will break down further after my head scans.
    • This was my question if he was someone that could get open. Well yall will be clamoring for another number 1 wide receiver next year for the 15th year in a row.  Meanwhile we give up 45 points a game. He sounds like taller Legette that may be able to catch, guess we won't know until September. Also, everyone assumes this guy is now #1, the fug he is. Theilen is the number 1.
    • My man. I’m with ya, as long as the huddle exists I think it’s the best option for panthers discussion and news. I’ve definitely become much less active since Tepper turned the team to poo and if I lived in NC and had panthers fan friends and acquaintances to talk panthers with maybe I wouldn’t be on much but for an out of towner it’s a great resource for discussing the team and despite some of the clowns here there are plenty of good dudes and discussion
