Local Music

I'm a musician myself and I know a few local bands. Most of them are complete crap. Charlotte is the home to the gay screamo hard core music. That stuff is absolutely talentless. I'm the group that says if you're bad, you know you're bad, and you shouldn't play.

You can't just jumble notes together and call it a song. I've been refining one of my songs for at least 5 years. I believe in your mind you know whether what you create or not is good enough or has potential. Don't settle for less and make it a crappy song.

lol... I hope you aren't talking about bands like this:

i can't believe this thread stayed on topic

i'm currently forming a cover band. we have a solid trio (bass, drums, guitar/vox) but have had a revolving door of horn players come through. trying to get a regular crew to show up every practice. that in itself is hard enough - finding talented, committed, and not too busy players. can hurt groups who settle for less just because they couldn't find the right person.

what kind of music, still doing ska/raggae etc?

horn players are crazy hard to come by AND they usually won't work without pay, good luck

nah, classic cover songs. been a group less than a month and right now we've got these down strong:

cee lo - fu(k you

james brown - i feel good

the guess who - american woman

talking heads - burning down the house

couple others in the works. trying to get about 30 before we gig, but we're quick learners.

I'd LOVE to get started with a ska/reggae group, maybe some first wave stuff, but it's probably harder to find talented musicians who like/understand those genres than to find committed horn players for a money making cover band.

I hear ya, I joined a 90's cover band in February and we have 56 songs already. Now we're just polishing up vocals (harmonies, back up etc)

We're actually going to crash an open mic tonight for the hell of it
