Gruden: Panthers Will Select Newton

CarolinaNut

Recommended Posts

Nope... still up in the air between 2 or 3 guys that they are tediously doing research on as we speak...

Peppers will be a Panther

Jarrett will have a break out year.

Panthers don't know who they will pick less than 2 weeks from the draft.

Gold will be next currency in post economic downfall USA

:D

Doesn't say something that he grilled Newton and all the other QBs pretty hard and he still thinks Newton should be our pick? Anti-Camites seem to just want to ignore the writing on the wall.

I think he said he was the most impressed with Cam after wrapping up this years QB Camp

Carolina Nut beat me to it with that quote.

He has a lot of potential, and the only thing that worries me is attitude. Think of Michael Vick.

Don't confuse confidence with arrogance. I work right next to a girl who went to VT and knew Vick. She's said for years that he was a cocky ass in school, but everyone let him get away with it, cause he was doing amazing sh!t on the field.

Newton's interviews have been put under a microscope by people who don't want him to succeed. The media has been gunning for him since November of last year, when Auburn made #1 on the BCS chart. Most of what you read about his "attitude" has been misconstrued or poorly represented.

You listen to anyone who worked with him last year, and they say he is a genuinely positive person, a hard worker, and someone you want to lead your team.

The thing is even if we draft him, clausen will be starting for this season.

Actually, I'd say Moore has the more likely chance to win the starting job. Clausen's career is in jeopardy after those 10 debacles of a game.

But who knows... Newton might just come out of the gate... it depends on what happens with this lockout.

Clausen would have to be a completely different player in training camp/preseason(if there is one) to even have a shot at starting..and I would make sure to do some drug testing on him if he managed to do that lol

lol @ the tag...

I've said all along that I want W's... and that stands for "wins," not "whites"... If Cam Newton is the pick and he comes out there tearing poo up, I'll be the first in line to buy his jersey...

I'm not ready to anoint anyone the Panthers' savior... especially not an unproven rookie QB that people clearly understand is a "risk vs. reward" type player... I apply that to any rookie too... not just Cam...

I never said the Jarrett thing, nor the gold thing... I rooted for Jarrett, yes... just like I will whoever the Panthers draft...

The gold thing I have always argued against, actually...

What Crystal Ball has told you ANYTHING about what the Panthers staff thinks or will do?

Love how some peopel just can't help themselves with taking guesses and speculation.....only to try and pass them off as some form of evidence or fact.

It's not actually foresight, but hindsight.

You don't stay with the worst QB your franchise has ever started. Period.

And since we can't deal for a free agent, our recourse is to go with the best player available at the position we need most. This would be Cam Newton.

One thing I did like during the GQBC is the fact that Cam appeared to be taking notes on the film they were watching. If we draft him, I hope he turns into a future SB MVP, but it will definitely take some time for him to learn the plays at the NFL level. When Cam heard him say that play that was 20 words long, Cam was like 36 is our play at Auburn, and simple=fast. That ish doesn't work in the NFL, but he at least seems to have the desire and work-ethic to develop his craft. Plus at the end when he told the guys not to steal 'the swag' and they were laughing it showed that he has an infectious personality. If he can at least get some respect in the huddle, it's a step up. Because right now it looks like Jimmy gets shat on in the huddle. I'm still not sold 100% on him as the pick yet, but I'm getting increasingly more comfortable with it.
