I think the issue is confused here. It doesn't seem like anyone is proposing banning these games or even regulating how often they are played. It really looks like they label these games risky so the state can regulate the childcare camps. I'm fine with that.

Is it big government? Yes, in that it is regulating private camps, and yes it is a pretty underhanded way to close the loophole. But this whole thing about "Big Librul gubmint want you kid fats an wont let thems play wiffle ball" is just misleading right wing spin (go figure). This regulation won't even marginally affect the children, just prevent Leeland McTouchy from operating the Cheapest Basement Daycare in Town without oversight.

The stupid "risky" or "dangerous" labels have no effect on the games at all. It's just a label. You can call a cheeseburger a heart attack on a bun and people can still have it.

Man, did no one read the article? It's not just about child abuse, the background checks are only part of it. It's also about making sure that you have at the very least have a plan to handle medical emergencies. Kids can have allergies, or medical conditions that need special treatment.

And I recall that when I was a toddler I was in a "indoor day care center" that was little more than a guy using his house as a business and I fell down a flight of stairs. I was bruised up and down but the guy just stood me up and told me I was fine and tried to conceal the bruises from my mom, thinking he could just play it off. The guy was more worried about making me look okay so he wouldn't get sued than he was about my condition, and I think that's the kind of thing they are trying to prevent.

Wiffle Ball will still be played, which I'm sure is what all the objectors here are earnestly upset about, so what's the BFD?

I'm sure Summer Camps have a way to deal with medical emergencies. I just can't believe that this is a such a big deal for the government to need to get involved more that they already are.
