SuperDuper Mergicized Panthers finalizing deal with Gross Thread

How is that a horrible job ?

STILL probably less than he would make on the market.

I agree with that, we may have gotten him for less than another team would be willing to give him....however.

1. We had our best two linemen (pep and Gross), come into FA in the same season.

2. We could/should have signed Gross to a long term deal last year, probably would have saved quite a bit, but we got cheap, and now will pay for that mistake.

While I am very happy for him to stay, as he is our best o lineman, I do think that we should have had this deal done earlier.

From what I understand is we offered him very good money last season.

Remember he had done very little at the LT spot.

I just don't get into the woulda/coulda/shoulda stuff.

I will agree with the 2 best linemen comment, but I don't think it's particularly something they didn't try to stop.

Speculation: Is frontloading Gross part of a salary cap plan for the FO to help them out down the road? Or a way of rewarding Jordan for staying with the team and maybe taking slightly less than what the market would have awarded him?

Or, putting a heavier cap hit from him this next season means they are not worrying about having to pay Peppers because he will get traded in the FO's opinion or they might just have to let him walk?

Man, I just wish they would get today's transactions over with today.

It's unfortunate and irritating, but I just don't see the wisdom in paying someone that much money in a year when they've rarely played LT. Franchising Gross for a year and letting him show what he could do was a wise decision, even if it ultimately ended up having really unfortunate timing.

As for Peppers...in my mind, he's already gone. Has been for some time. The only question now is the location and details...

I'm going to say a little reward for his play and agreeing to stay for less.
