Riley: Don't count out Moore

Not getting into the Moore debate again but Williams didn't have a TD in the preseason either yet we still consider him a top RB. I wouldn't put too much stock into preseason. Look at the Colts.

Pretty much.

A few years back nobody could gain a yard running on our defense in preseason. But when the actual games started, we were getting steamrolled.

Moore has shown in the past that he can play QB well enough to start in the NFL. He didn't show it last year, but you can't pin that all on him. Rookie receivers (although Moore had Jarrett and Smith initially), injuries to the line, and our dynamic duo of Scherer and Davidson all combined to set him up for failure. I was pretty disappointed in his play, but I think it's reasonable to avoid pinning everything on him. Same goes for Clausen too.

And as far as the thread topic, I can find Les Miles saying nice things about Russell (although he did recently give up on him). College coaches who don't say nice things about their ex-players might find it more difficult to sign future players, right?

But here's another question. If you were Matt Moore, and the Panthers drafted Newton, wouldn't you try your best to sign elsewhere? If we take Newton he's going to eventually be the starter. We have Clausen and Pike under contract. At best, Moore will be competing to start a few games in 2011 and then hold a clipboard. And he doesn't need those games as an audition for other clubs, like Clausen would. All Moore has to do is pull out 2009 game film and use that to buy a shot at a legit starting job on the Vikings, Cardinals, or any other team that needs a QB.

So forget about if he can play here. If we draft Newton, the question is, why would he?

And if he looks good in those games he is gonna get benched for Newton who would be an unknown?

Shockingly handsome???? I can see where someone might accuse you of homosexual leanings. That is a bizzarre thing for a guy to say about another guy.

I always thought of him as an athletic Dorky version of Potsey from Happy Days.

He was "Charlotte's sexiest man" so it's not my opinion, it's fact.

Here's some better pictures of him for your viewing pleasure:

Again you guys keep calling him a veteran. He's hardly a veteran, he's started under 16 games. Sure he had more experience than Clausen but it's not like he doesn't have things to learn. What the hell was he supposed to do? Upseat John Fox's idol Jake Delhomme?

Has more experience than Volek for example who has been discussed as a free agent possibility.

He has more experience than Jake did when he got here.

Just sayin.............................

Not a vet but hell all we heard going into last year was how he ended the 09 season. Yet the reality of the situation is that he failed to rise to the occasion when the pressure was on. We get more excuses & even more funny is  at a Matt Moore thread having 9 pages in 2011..

It's honestly a surprise that Moore still has the talents he has after being 3 years in a Fox system. Fox's offense does nothing for the QB except put pressure on them.

He doesn't have a full season of starts so it would make sense that he would make inexperienced. Not really his fault since he should have been starting since 2008.

Matt Moore is as good or better than Mark Sanchez

Here is a new excuse it was all Fox fault. I'm surprise MM survive the Fox years and still remains a great QB.

When he makes it through a full season then we can talk about being better then a QB that has been in 2 conference championship games. Get real.

I'd hope everyone would want Matt back. He has already proven he can play well when the rest of the offense is working also (running attack, receivers catching passes, etc).

He's better than every other QB on the roster, and any rookie to come out of the draft.

That's not good enough. We need a QB who can win by his self.

dude but riley said he keeps his composure under external pressure and is like the Joe Cool of bad QBs so why do you suggest he was feeling the pressure now?

Riley is correct. The difference is Moore had a few games to work through his issues in 2006, he was given no time last year.

I believe Moore is a slow starter, as evidenced by games where he usually starts out throwing high and as the game continues, settles down and becomes more accurate and gets in a groove.

I believe the same happened on a larger scale in college. They started out 2-3 and there was pressure for both of them to be canned but Moore stayed at it and went 8-1 over the last 9 including multiple upset wins.

Had he been given more time after his struggles, I believe he would have settled down and gotten back to the QB that he is.

I'd say calling an offense that repeatedly calls 2 run plays in a row for no gains and then puts his QB in 3rd and long every drive is pretty fuging sad. We only got away with it in 2008 because we could run over everyone at will.

Drew Brees looked good in San Diego, and everyone still knew it was just a matter of time before Rivers took over. When you take a Qb with the top pick, you expect to start him no matter who's under center. At best, Moore would keep the job for a season or two. To count on a long-term starting role would be foolish, no matter how well you think you can play. If he wants that (and what NFL QB doesn't?), then he should go elsewhere to get it.

Assuming we take Newton, of course...

Gotta love the insecurity in men.

If one man admits that another is handsome, or good looking, they must be gay.

Yall need to get a grip on your insecurities, and grow up.
