I look at that list of Hurney 2nd round fail and it's almost unreal. Like it would be harder to draft that badly if you tried.

well for starters he's got more career rushing yards than our very own jonathan stewart, darren mcfadden, felix jones, and rashard mendenhall, pretty much anybody not named chris johnson or matt forte in that draft

Ah yes, when I think of great supporting cast I think of how Joe Flacco was 4of 10 for 34 yards when the Ravens beat the Patriots in the playoffs two years ago, that was a much bigger reason for the Ravens victory than Ray Rice who only ran for 150 and 2 TDs.

I acknowledge that's possible, but I'm not dead convinced of it.

A bust would definitely hurt him big time, but I could foresee a scenario where the scouting staff gets "reorganized" while Hurney stays.

I think this makes up for his 2nd round failures. I want him to stop trading away future top picks, but other than that I would say he is an above average GM.

Reminder: Always keep in mind that all drafts prior to 2007 were conducted with Tony Softli running the scouting department (including the debacle of 2005).

From 2007 to present the scouting department has been run by Don Gregory.

Hurney doesn't do this job by himself. It is, however, up to him to reshape the staff as he sees fit (Softli was a Polian holdover).

Yes, there are some terrible picks on there, but there are also some pretty good ones.

Deshaun Foster:

He played for us for 5 years, starting for most of those. Had 1000+ yards from scrimmage from 05-07. Injuries became a problem and he developed a case of fumblitits.

Sherrod Martin

Is developing into a solid starting safety with potential to be very good. Has a nose for the ball. (5 FF and 4 INT in two years)

Richard Marshall:

Has played every single game since drafted. Started the majority of those. Over five years has averaged:

84.6 tkls - 73.2 Solo - 8.8 PD - 1 sack - 2.8 int per year.

Unhappy and wants out, but will be the 3rd most sought after CB on the market. (Behind Awesomewa and Cromagnon)

Overall B+/A-

Ryan Kalil

Perennial Pro Bowler. Consistently considered one of the top 3 Centers in the league.

Overall A+++

(Also, Brown, Edwards and Clausen could all still turn out to be good picks.)

Ravens haven't had success with second-round picks

Ozzie Newsome is universally considered one of the best talent evaluators in the league, and deservedly so. But even Newsome isn't immune from whiffing, and more than once.

That's something worth keeping in mind when you're evaluating how Hurney has done as a GM.

He hits so damn well on his first rounders no one pays attention to anything else.
