Breaking Down "The List"

Dallas has to sign Ware this offseason, too. Even they can't finagle what will most likely be the two top defensive salaries in the NFL on the same team.

Valid, and I remember reading somewhere that Dallas had indicated they were not interested,

But unless you believe Florio (tampering) what Peppers is expressing is what he wants, and that's not necessarily going to line up with the best interests of the Cowboys (or any other team he desires to play for).

Kinda surprised that not many have mentioned the Jags as the unknown AFC team. They don't run 3-4, but given the connection with Del Rio it makes some sense.

I considered Jax, however 3 questions came to mind.

1. They are known to be a pretty cheap org, will they splurge for Pep?

2. Is Jax "big" enough for Pep?

3. How safe is Del Rio's job, in honestly?

Interesting. E Cat posted a note that per John Clayton, the other NFC teams are in the East, not the South as Gantt suggested.

That'd mean only one team left off out of the Giants, Eagles and Redskins. We already knew about the Cowboys. Tough call as to which of those he would not want to go to.

My gut says the Redskins would be the odd man out if this is true, but then my gut says a lot of things (usually "feed me").

Have to admit I'm a tad skeptical as I've never known the national guys to scoop our local beat reporters.

If Spagnuolo was still @ the NYG I could see his wanting to go there...but they have a different DC now. I have no idea exactly what criteria Pep is using to determine where he wants to go though. Who's the DC in Wash? Is is still Blache? He's a guy I could see Pep wanting to play for. Same with Jimmy J in Philly.

Kearse had a big injury history even before he went to Philly IIRC, Pep doesn't. And of course there's the fact that they have 2 1st rounders. But they aren't often major FA players.

Very true on all three points.

The Eagles is where he may want to play, but it's not really their big thing to go after the big boys in FA.

But you have to wonder if Pep's motivation is all about the money. He could just really want to play in a much more aggressive scheme, and take less money than he is worth, to be put into a position to make a run at HOF numbers.

Just a thought.

My title seems ironic now.

The Panthers didn't "break down" his list. They crushed it; crumpled it into a little ball, spit on it, shot it basketball style into the nearest trash can and followed up with a cheer of "whoooo, two points" :sosp:

Peppers and Carl Carey sought to put the onus on the team, either dissuading them from franchising him or forcing the team to do the heavy lifting for them by negotiating with a team that Peppers considered acceptable.

Hurney's response: "You want a deal somewhere else? Go find it yourself. Oh, and keep in mind that whoever makes you an offer has to believe it's worth parting with two first round picks to get you."

Ouch!

Hardball's fun, ain't it? :sosp:
