Spread offense QB's in the NFL

Being told what to look for vs.and being able to read the defense, make the right decisin, and execute it in a matter of seconds are two completely different things.

it is, but after you are told what to look for you should be able to make that read a lot faster.again in certain situations you should expect somethings and the 15 seconds coaches should and more inlikey do tell their qb what to expect.

I know a lot of people say the game is played under center.....

but when Tom Brady went postal on the NFL in 2007.....he seemed to operate heavily from the shotgun. I'd like to know his percentage in the shotgun vs. the league the past few years.

I mean, I would bet over the past 5 years....Indy and NE probably operate out of the shotgun at a higher % than all other NFL teams. If they aren't the top 2 teams they would be close.

There is not enough time to consider down and distance, defensive personnel on the field, come up with a play and repeat it twice to your QB if you are trying to tell a QB what to look for out of the D.

It's the QB's responsibility to recognize what is going on from film study. There is already enough on the OC without having to hand hold the QB.

down and distance, defensive personnel is considered when calling a play.thats part of why OC sit up in the box.i know it's the qbs responsibility but it does not take 15 seconds to call a play. more than likely he would call the play, and tell him what to look for.(defensive scheme, personnel, or maybe a read.)

now after that the defense will switch and it's up to the qb to be able to adjust accordingly.

Manning and Brady don't have to play fake to make you respect the run, and slow down the D a bit. Every D in the league respects those two, and even when they know it's a pass (shotgun) have to be careful with blitzs.

No one really respects the run though of those teams. They run when teams almost force them to run making it look like a gimmee. I think those teams have great QBs but in addition I think those teams have adapted to the way the league has changed.....they simply spread teams out more like you see in college as part of there base offenses. They both do it different but both have really gone heavy in that aspect lately.

You could include Cassel's 2008 season. They were shotgun heavy then as well.

He did alot of shotgun because the Patriots did not have a running game that year.

Put our QB in the shotgun too often and you take away the running game....the strongest aspect of our team.

Both teams have increased their shotgun usage as the NFL as the league has changed. Like I said, I would easily wager no teams in the NFL have operated out of the shotgun as heavily as those 2 teams since the NFL started making it a more pass happy league.

Neither team is worried about not having a Panther caliber ground attack like Fox wanted. They want to spread you out........Fox wanted to bring you in. In today's NFL....spreading you out seems like the smart train of thought.......and that would help some of these college kids.

I fully understand your point.

However, I woudl not expect Rivera to go pass happy anytime soon with the strength of this roster being the RB's and run blocking.

Maybe, and this might be hard for some to understand, but just maybe, that is because they have fugging first ballot Hall Of Famers at QB. :mad2:

the Matt Cassel season is lumped in that time frame.....shotgun % was pretty comparable to the 07 season.

he wasn't a HOFer.....he was a kid that hadn't played since high school.
