Trade down Possibilty

I am sure it has been mentioned somewhere.... likely the draft forum that i can not access even though i have posted frequently and without incident since last year.

Anyway, i see the Vikings as a team that is very interested in moving up.

Joe Webb is a interesting project but Childress is gone and Frazier and Musgrave may want a project all there own. They could fall in love with Cam. Also with the prospect of wanting to build a new stadium those Cam Newton jersey and new PSL sales could help in a big way. I see it as a similar situation the NY Jets found themselves in. The Jets felt they were not too many pieces away from a deep playoff run and the risk was worth it.

Here is the rub. Vikings second and a first swap, plus some filler players.

Since my posts have become less frequent and as i said i am locked out of the forum where this would usually go. Here is my mock with the trade.

1. Vikings - Cam Newton

2. Broncos - Marcel Dareus

3. Bills - Von Miller

4. Bengals - AJ Green

5. Cardinals - Peterson

6. Browns - Robert Quinn

7. 49ers - Prince Amukumara

8. Titans - Blaine Gabbert

9. Cowboys - Tyron Smith

10. Redskins - Julio Jones

11. Texans - Aldon Smith

12. PANTHERS - NICK FAIRLEY

2nd round Vikings pick - BRANDON HARRIS

3rd round PANTHERS - JARVIS JENKINS

end of 3rd- ROY HELU

Sorry for the long post lunch break time killer.

Problem with the scenario is that "filler players" cannot be part of the deal. No trade of players without a new CBA.

Vikings would not be willing to give up enough picks to move up 11 spots. Not going to happen.

Not to mention that the Vikings already have one failed "athlete playing QB" with T Jackson....why would they want another one in Cam Newton.

intresting but, falling to 12 means no elite players are on the board. Gabbert won't make it out of the top 5. with the palmer saga going on i don't see how they(cin) say we don't need a qb. also the cardinals would love to have gabby. Fairley falls to 12? i dout it. brandon harris is going to be first rounder.

you need a consensus number 1 pick to trade out of the top spot and get fair market value; many league execs attest to this and it seems common knowledge. there is no consensus this year, so you can pretty much put your trade down pipe dreams to rest unless all you want with the trade is 4th and 5th round picks.

There's no way we take Fairley after the recent "red flags."

I really wanted Fairley at one point, I even drafted the top DT in Madden and named him "nick fairley" lol, but after seeing that pic of him with Jamarcus Russell, I', going to have to say I now would also pass on him :(

I see the liklihood of a trade as rather small, but Cincinnati and Tennessee are the two most likely trading partners, IMO. I would not consider a trade below that because the talent level drops off. If I could guess the Panthers' board:

AJ Green

Marcell Dareus

Cam Newton

Pat Peterson

Blaine Gabbert

--Gap--

Julio Jones

Von Miller (I think he can play 4-3)

Robert Quinn

A second tier pick would probably be for Jones or Quinn. I would not take anything less than Tennessee's first in 2012 and their second rounder this year.

Does this mean they are picking Green? Nope. Need will play a role. You have to remember that men's jobs are on the line with this pick. Here are the factors that will ultimately influence the decision:

1. Do they think a QB in a year that could not have OTAs, Training Camp, or a preseason is a smart pick?

2. Do they think there are franchise QBs in the draft?

If yes to both, we take Cam or trade down 3-4 spots and take Gabbert.

3. Is Steve Smith wanting out?

4. Do they think he has an adverse effect on developing young QB talent?

If no to one of the above and yes to these questions, Green could be the choice. I do think they see him as the safest pick in the draft.

5. Is DT the biggest need?

6. Will the quality DTs be gone by the 65th pick?

If yes to these questions and a no to questions #1 or #2, we will take Dareus.

This is, of course, obvious, but maybe we need to be reminded of the decision the team has to make and not the decision we (or the press) has decided they will make. If I am the GM, it comes down to this.

The Jets/Browns trade was a 12 spot jump to get the second best QB in the draft. The Vikings would have the opportunity to take whichever QB they like the most Cam or Gabbert. I love how some folks are so sold on Cam that in their minds it's a guarantee he is the pick YET... many of the same likely do not think he is worth trading up to get.

As far as NICK all of the sudden being garbage i am not buying it. We have all seen it a dozen times. The analyst prop someone up and over time is tore down. Bowers has a knee injury, Ingram may fall out of first round, Austin is now a first round prospect, Fairley is either depending on who you talk to the most gifted DT in the draft or a bust. I am not buying it. Fairley and Harris would be great value picks. AS far as Harris being a first rounder i don't see it. Dline and Oline are gonna dominate the late part of the first. Jimmy Smith, PP, and Prince are gonna be the top three corners taken. At the top of the second i think the QB's start coming off the board again. Dalton, Kapernick, Ponder and Mallett. Harris should be there for us. Unlike everyone else on this board i see DT and a replacement for Marshall as bigger concerns than adding another QB to our carousel of inexperienced project QB's. Pike, Moore and Clausen is far from impressive but adding Cam or Gabbert is not gonna help.
