Bowers has "long term issues"

You've got a bit of a case of dueling reporters on this one.

Mary Kay Cabot's source essentially said the knee is fine because it's stable and there's no swelling right now.

Steve Wyche's source said there's some weakness and signs of long term arthritis.

PFW's sources said he had microfracture surgery in January and there's evidence of a degenerative condition.

Charley Casserly says he's being told by NFL teams that Bowers is being labeled as "high risk".

So who's right? Well, as far as repeating what's been told. likely all of them are.

Put it all together and what you've got is that, at this moment, his knee is okay. But there are major questions about how bad it will get, and how soon it will get bad (with one NFL guy saying he's been told Bowers might not even be able to play out his rookie contract).

Bottom line: Whoever takes him is taking a chance.

Well if we took him in the 3rd or 4th I'd be pumped.

I'd be concerned (but then that's my default way of looking at draft picks).

Although it doesn't reflect directly on Bowers, the Panthers have a generally bad history when it comes to taking chances on guys with medical issues.

There are some recent exceptions though (Johnathan Stewart and Greg Hardy, who's technically still up in the air).
