Just more evidence that the Charlotte Observer is the propaganda arm of the Panthers

Dumb thread. Gantt is as big of a Panthers apologist as anyone else.

Agreed. DG was the biggest one of all. Not because he liked the Panthers, but because he always wanted to get first dibs on a story first.

When they hired JPerson, I knew his days were numbered.

Good try OP, will be looking for the book when it is finally written.

So, 100% of this forum is "anti-Panther?"

Criticizing the Panthers doesn't make you anti-panther.

I'm not anti-Panthers at all, but damned if the Panthers would allow me to have a position where more than the ingrates on this board read my opinions.

Yeah, I dont get it. He stood up for Fox, Delhomme, Hurney, and Richardson while everyone was bashing them all to hell. Maybe even too a fault. He seemed to catch a lot of crap for sticking with them too much.

I did like his reasonable approach to the reality of how things actually worked around the organization. I liked how he would tell people they were stupid when they were. My only fault with him was he never seemed to grasp the game aspect.

There is no evidence that the Panthers control information other than the fact that any outspoken player that wasn't the Alpha and Omega of the offense was traded, any media member that didn't tow the company line has been reassigned and their main press vehicles make USA Today look as creative and edgy as Paris in the Roaring 20's.

The Charlotte Disturber sucks. Who cares? Who reads it, for that matter?

I still buy it a year at a time for some reason :(. Nostalgia I suppose. Something about walking out at 6:30am with a cup of coffee on a quite morning to get the paper that still appeals to me.

And for the record, Gannt getting fired is all Jimmy Clausen's fault.

Fowler is a yo boy for the CO and the Panthers administration.

He sucks.

Me thinks he will take over as the Panthers beat writer.

Steve Reed would be a great choice, but honestly, I was excited when Gantt got the gig- only to have my expectations slowly crumble. He sold out.

Sorry Fiz, I'm not buying it. I think it's more conspricy than fact but it could be true but I just doubt it.

Mainly, I find it interesting the Pat Yas was a horrible writer during the time I knew him with the Observer and all of a sudden at ESPN he's truely one of their best writers (mostly opinion though).

Gantt was great during his time before the Observer with Gastonia paper (?). Then, he goes to the Observer and his quality just fell off completely this past year or so.

I think this was much more to do with the operations of the paper than it does of the Panther's organization.

Like I intimated in a thread earlier this year, it was time for Gantt to go. The man didn't care whether the Panthers win or lose. Unlike many of you, I do think that you can write about a team, analyze the FO's decisions, and be very objective when it comes to your opinions while generally rooting for the team's success. Some would argue bias, but no one has yet to explain to me clearly how reporting on a specific team by its very nature isn't unbiased. In fact, I can argue that your opinions can even be more analytical and critical when you do have a concern about the team's success. All in all, I wish Gantt success at a more national-minded position. Here's hoping that he'll find one.

Who cares really? Who listens to the media? Not everyone listens to them and thinks they are so great. Of course the paper's stance will line up in a positive light for JR. It happens with more cities and teams its not a new idea really. Does it get old? Yes, but if you listen to the media in the first place and thinking your getting an idea from a good writer that has no chains to his company, you're going to have problems.

Most successful media is shaped and formed in some way or another, there is always stuff they aren't telling us or shifting it according to their own agenda, especially for small market teams. The argument I could make with that is becasue I am a huge fan and read anything I can get my hands on by the time the Observer posts something I already know 90% of it, the extra 10% just being their little spin on it, becasue this is such a small fan, we know more than the media. I guess it will be a means of guiding more of the general public.

Point is its the media, your expectations are too high.

Maybe you're on to something and you should start printing a Panther newspaper for all of us to read in Charlotte, one that is independent so real opinions could always be expressed.I'd read it as a fan. I know I'd read that before the observer. Look out though you might get shut down by JR :). You could inform Charlotte.

I hope Fowler doesn't get the beat because he's partly to mostly terrible.
