Darin Gantt no longer covering Panthers

didn't always agree with his take and I think he showed his personal bias at times (Edwards, etc) BUT

Gantt was easily the best beat writer that has ever covered the Panthers. I think they made a poor move taking him off.

this is real talk right here... back when he was only working for the herald he was pretty good but since he had been working for with the observer he has been kinda crappy

Totally disagree with that. There was nothing crappy about the way he wrote articles or the way he covered the Panthers. He was very good at what he did, and he did his job very well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I respect the hell out of him. I never did finish my journalism degree, but I have perspective on it. It isn't easy at all. You have to navigate egos on the team you cover and not step on anyone toes. He was an honest reporter/writer and kept it real. Told it how it was. I have nothing but respect for him. Wish him nothing but the best...

the closer you get to the real news the less you can report to the masses. Every beat writer in the biz faces this and battles how to balance responsibility with loyalty all while the lines are blurring on who to be loyal to.

I get that. It's rough and most people will not succeed in that situation.

But to defend Jake Delhomme for as long as he did even up until he was released and after that just proved that his loyalty was and most likely always had been with the Panther brass...

He was bought and paid for. I respect the Panthers for manipulating him which means I can have no respect for him. I never thought he offered us anything but filtered scraps and took more pride in his proximity than his responsibility.

I imagine this happens to the best and the worst of them all the time.
