Another Cam thread, how to insure he succeeds.

If we had a decent veteran quarterback, I'd be all for Cam sitting. But like others have said, I have a feeling he could beat out Clausen and Pike. If we keep those two and draft a quarterback, we won't have a veteran to put out there. We would be forced to start the best quarterback of the three.

I think Pike is destined for the PS

Um, is talent and potential is great......denying that is just silly. He is a winner....which is a trait often downplayed when it shouldn't be. He is also a natural leader.

Tell me why we should not draft a QB like Newton without talking about the 2012 draft.

Chris Weinke nor Leak had the type skill set and talent/potential that Cam does when looking at the next level.

Ok, what excellent selling points!

I will just take your word for it!

I don't understand the "talent" or potential part.

What can he offer this team that any of the other top five QB's cannot offer?

He isn't the fastest.

He doesn't have the best completion percentage.

He has potential character issues.

He doesnt have the most experience.

He isnt the best at reading coverages.

SOOO what makes him this "total package" that everyone continues to rant about?

What is his (even) one advantage over any of the other QBs in this draft?

Clausen and Pike really aren't both good enough to be on the same roster. Too much work for both to occupy spot. If they draft Cam I am confident they bring in an old guy for the film room, to be in the ear, and possibly take some early snaps.

I hope so, and I'd be fine cutting Pike loose. I was pissed when we took him last year. Everyone talked about how he was the best player available, and that may well have been, but you don't need a trio of inexperienced quarterbacks on the same roster.

I'd be thrilled if we could find a capable vet, keep Clausen and draft Newton.

I don't know but a lot of NFL personnel seem to think very highly of him (including us). Why not ask them??

you don't understand talent/potential? You don't understand there is a difference between the skill set of someone like Calvin Johnson vs. Keary Colbert? Despite Keary having the "stats". If you can't acknowledge/understand that then I will bow out now.

Cam has a different skill set than the 5 other QBs. He has the most talent and could also be the best potential leader out of the group. He wins (again, something people overlook to often in favor of "stats").

just b/c Clausen was utter crap who showed zero progression doesn't mean Cam should sit an entire season....not in today's NFL. End of the season or at the halfway mark it will be time for some on the job training.

There are more young QBs who become successful that make strides as rookies than sit an entire year.

Sit Cam at first....midway into the season or at the end pending we aren't in the playoff race it will be time for him to get into the lineup (that all assumes we have training camp, full season, etc. ). If we have a full year w/ camp....you don't sit overall #1 picks that long.....especially when your QB roster looks like Carolina's will. No point playing less talented or effective players ahead of him.

Rivers, Palmer, Vick, Hasselbeck, Cassel, Brady, Schaub, Warner, Brees, and Romo would argue with you.

So would David Carr, Alex Smith, Jimmy Clausen, and Byron Leftwich.

The only ones on your side are peyton manning, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Sam Bradford, and Mark Sanchez.

Peyton Manning's MR. Saturday All-pro center said it best "QBs get better with REAL TIME playing experience, the days of sitting are done, QBs do not get better on the practice squad, they need to see the game at full speed in order to get used to it and better...I agree....I really doubt a first rounder would sit an entire season

highland, glad to see a positive post about Cam from you buddy! Good to see you're able to put your support behind him if he's our pick.

That being said, wouldn't even want Cam to be subbed in through a specially developed package of plays that are tailored just to him so we utilize him in some way his rookie year? I think short yardage packages and occasional shotgun forms could present some interesting possibilities for us offensively and give him real-time action on the field.
