Another Cam thread, how to insure he succeeds.

If Cam is the pick I feel there is only one way to really insure this kid has a legit shot and it's a two year plan.

Year one: do nothing. He sits as the #3 QB and never sees the field. What he needs is a full year in an pro lifting program, and a full year watching the game, seeing the speed of it, being around pros, learning how pros conduct business, how to study game film at the pro level and a full year with Chud learning this offense inside and out.

Year 2: compete for the starting job. If he wins it, fine. If not then get him all the reps you can again in preseason, if we are down by a lot or up by a lot in games. Continue what happened in year one but he is clearly the #2 and you keep letting him compete in practice each week. By doing this you let him EARN the spot which will really re inforce the respect of the Veterans on this team. And hey we all know the kid is going to see game time due to injury or this or that to the #1. Or of #1 Struggles, its Cam time.

I think if we do that this kid will have the best chance to succeed. Cam is way too raw to throw out there year one at all and even his biggest fans can admit that.

I will say I am a Panthers fan, and if Cam becomes a Panther then I support the guy initially, it is only right and fair and I hope the Panthers bring him along the right way so we can all (Including Cam) enjoy his potential success.

just b/c Clausen was utter crap who showed zero progression doesn't mean Cam should sit an entire season....not in today's NFL. End of the season or at the halfway mark it will be time for some on the job training.

There are more young QBs who become successful that make strides as rookies than sit an entire year.

Sit Cam at first....midway into the season or at the end pending we aren't in the playoff race it will be time for him to get into the lineup (that all assumes we have training camp, full season, etc. ). If we have a full year w/ camp....you don't sit overall #1 picks that long.....especially when your QB roster looks like Carolina's will. No point playing less talented or effective players ahead of him.

well no one knows any of that until he gets to camp so.....

People thought Big Ben would need at least a year to develop bc he had never had many snaps under center, he was coming from a weak conference, and never ran an NFL offense. He came out and had one of the best rookie years in history.

Not suggesting Cam would do that, but you don't know how quickly he will transition until he gets there.

let him compete from day 1. if he is the best qb on the roster, play him.

you know he would beat out Clausen or Pike. I think they can bring in a vet and just make the vet the starter......let Cam dictate when the starter loses the job.

Anyone.

As long as he isn't in Carolina I don't care.

you want us to continue to suck b/c of a QB sabataging the offense? We need legit talent and Cam has it. Cam is a winner.....

Clausen doesn't have great talent and isn't a winner......Rivera sitting on his hands is only gonna make Carolina suck and get him back into a DC job.

Sell him to me. (Seriously, please do)

How is he SOOO great?

Sure he won the one year he started for a college team. So what? You see where college winning took Chris Weinke, John Parker Wilson, and Chris Leak.

I agree with you that Clausen sucks, I just don't think Cam is what you hyped him up to be.

Um, his talent and potential is great......denying that is just silly. He is a winner....which is a trait often downplayed when it shouldn't be. He is also a natural leader. I mean Clausen lost in college......and scrambled around with people assuming it was all bad OL play. They also doubted his leadership.........we got that exact QB at the next level we saw in college. The Golden Calf of Bristol was raw and a winner....and came into the NFL as a rookie and did what no one thougth he could do.....play.

Tell me why we should not draft a QB like Newton without talking about the 2012 draft.

Chris Weinke nor Leak had the type skill set and talent/potential that Cam does when looking at the next level.

Cam has a higher ceiling imo than Luck.

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
