Peter King: Panthers doing homework on Newton

Good to see his JCO coach giving him praise. I'm still not sold on Cam Newton becoming a legit NFL QB, but I think the questions about his character are starting to fade. '

Everyone makes mistakes (stealing a laptop, whatever) and you learn and grow from them. How many of us have squeaky clean records never made a stupid decision when you were young and got in trouble. What difference did it make?

Newton's desire to get better seems real though, which makes me feel a little better if we draft him. But doesn't Jimmy Clausen have a similar desire?

This same columnist was roundly dismissed on these forums when he said he didn't think we'd take him not long ago. Now he's well respected because he agrees that we're looking into Newton. Huh.

I still think King is a toolbag, though I am interested in the info that he gathers and provides. I just don't care what his opinion is.

I don't care if you call out his post, go for it... I just found it amusing how the pendulum swings with people dismissing others opinion because it disagrees with their own, then accepting it (and yes, it does happen to both 'sides.') That was the original purpose of my post. Then you pointed out how you had a problem with a previous poster. It's your right to complain about him too, but don't act like he's the only one complaining about message board posts.

Anyway... everybody is speculating right now, but yes, the Panthers are doing their homework. Personally, I'm glad someone pointed out this week's MMQB, I forgot to read it last week.

Very few people have ever seriously said the Panthers were not interested in Newton at all and were just putting out misinformation. Most of us have said that, at very least, it could serve two purposes: Find out if you like a guy, while also propping up that you are serious about him so if some other team wants him too, they better try to trade with you.

You might be right but you can run a smoke screen and not request tapes from Blinn. We might still trade down, I am not denying that, but people who are still throwing the smokescreen stuff out there is fooling themselves. Cam is a legit target if we don't trade out. Not talking about you BTW MAV just some of the other people who clung to the smokescreen theory too long.

Agree. That is going to be a bad situation for a young QB.

Arizona would be a better landing spot for him.

Arizona is where I hope he lands. Decent coaching staff, good weapons, they just need to solidify a few aspects of their team, the biggest being QB. Also, weak division.

I think he could also do well with Chan Gailey, but I think the Bills will go defense. Fitzpatrick is pretty good up there, they just need a D.
