Dear Jerry Richardson, Peter Karmanos and Michael Jordan,

I wish we could get a MLB team here.

We almost had the Rays until they decided to have an unbelievable season and re-energize Tampa. But, the way they are playing now, it might not be too long before they start talking relocation again.

I'd love to see the MLB in Charlotte but we just can't support it. Teams nowadays that barely fill the stadiums get the Relocation talk. We'd never fill it after the first couple seasons. It MAY be able to work in the Triangle, with Raleigh/Cary/Durham/Chapel Hill fans all attending but I see that as even less of a chance than in Charlotte.

Won't matter to me though. I'll be living in Brooklyn by September. Sports out the wazoo. And yes, I'll still be a Panthers fan and Braves fan up in Yankee country. :)

I'm just talking about NC in general, Raleigh could support it or even Wilmington.

I am in on the baseball team. It would be a good deal too bc it doesnt compete with for anything. Panthers have to compete with college football for attention, and the Bobcats compete with college b-ball for attention, but baseball would have us all to ourselves.

Although I am not sure I could divorce myself from the Braves. I have been hooked since I was a baby wearing a blue #3 jersey with the name Dale Murphy on it.

Just relocate the Rays to the RTP and give them the Durham Bulls moniker. Bulls games already rock I can't imagine the support that would flood their way if they became MLB.

because of the complete failure of the bobcats and panthers (and the fact that i live 10 minutes away from raliegh), i actually became a hockey watcher these past few months. its funny because i really didnt even give a poo even when they won the stanely cup

but yeah, im hoping skinner becomes something special.

At least the Hurricanes were contending for the playoffs right down to the bitter end and have an almost cult-like fanbase that consistently fills the place up.

The other two franchises are completely irrelevant right now, but it wasn't long ago that Double Trouble was running wild on Monday Night Football and the Bobcats sold out TWCA with a "White-Out" for the first round of the NBA Playoffs. I'm still stunned that the Panthers organization managed to go from 12-4 and hosting an NFC divisional playoff game to the number one pick in the draft in two seasons' time.

Keep in mind, though, the first major professional sports franchise came to NC in the form of the expansion Hornets in 1988, so compared with most of the major markets in the US, the cities of Charlotte and Raleigh are still very young sports towns.

It's bad enough having droves of opposing fans show up to every home game involving an NBA, NFL, or NHL team from NC, but an MLB franchise would probably be the worst of the bunch with all the Braves, Yankees, Sox, etc. fans in the area.

good post OP

I can't stand how people just casually allow JR to do this to the city of Charlotte and the Carolinas. They support him no matter what never questioning his decisions, its almost scary. As if a lockout isn't going to be enough of a drawback from sports, we have to have the owner who goes all out and fugs up. Bree, Brady, Manning they are the leader's of the player's union, yet last year did they say "I have got to prepare for the future, I'm just going to sit out and not play", no, but that is exactly what JR did. Now they were talking about the Panthers relocating (LA).

Sure right now it's funny and stupid to think they would but talks getting started is more than I want to happen, even if it's just joking around. It ruins city sports teams to pull poo like that. JR hurt more than the team, he hurt the city of Charlotte and Carolinas as well. People don't realize it but it is true. Bandwagon fans may suck, but you need that fake support for a small team to keep your head above water.

As far as Jordan, did you expect differently? And I don't watch hockey.

I am hoping the new owner of the panther in the next few years can finally bring us that trophy, I have very little faith JR will be doing it with his last few years as an owner. I just hope by that time there is enough interest/stability for a new owner to take over in Charlotte. I wish it were looked at a more of an honor to come to our city and have us support your PSL's, your team with all our heart than someone who is a fan of business, feeling special for what he is doing.

I like the rays because they are the Durham bulls. Say what you want about them, they built that franchise through their farm system, they didn't go out and buy their talent like the sox and yanks. I use to watch all those guys play when they were durham bulls. it was great to see them have some success recently.
