Source: Peppers has a list of 4 teams he'd play for, 2 in the NFC South

I say we slap it on him and let him bitch all he wants. Ether he will play here or he will get traded to a team we will get good compensation. Really he is doing notting but hurting himself by doing this. Teams are watching and it looks more like TO then what you would expect from Peppers.

actually going back through the thread i really don't think you understand how the process even works, how the franchise works, how the proposed franchise and trade works, or anything pertinent to the matter at hand.

i mean what in the world does this even mean

it means that we are gonna waste whatever cap space he occupies and whatever monies he is paid in 09-10 because he is going to sit or play half ass.

You cannot gain anything by tagging him. You can only lose. The end game of the negotiations you envision are putting stars in your eyes. It will be long, tedious, and exhausting for both sides and has a huge risk of producing a huge steaming terd in the end.

Why? because the entire negotiation is on the "potential" of an aging DE who wants to change position and wants big-time veteran money but will never be a vocal leader as he adjusts to a system he has never played in in his career. Its a ******* nightmare.

The reality is that it simply is not going to happen.

now answer my gotdamed question

Playing tag with Peppers could be complicated

CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Panthers haven’t yet placed the franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers — or signed Jordan Gross.

And while both are still expected in the next 24 hours, the Peppers half of the equation is becoming complicated.

According to sources with knowledge of his intent, Peppers has a list of just four teams to which he’s willing to accept a trade. Only one is in the AFC, and another is Dallas, which lacks a first-round pick the Panthers would be seeking in any deal. The other two are believed to be NFC South opponents, to which the Panthers would be hesitant to move their disgruntled star.

Atlanta, has an upside; good young QB, which we don't have; NO needs defense period and they too have an offense. Can't believe he'd want to go to Tampa; but, again, what he wants is not as important as what is good for the Panthers period.

Free Agency in the NFL is not truly 'free'.

Peppers, the quiet man, in Dallas...if he thinks he does not like the spotlight here, let him go there.

This is Bullsh*t from Peppers. He is definitely trying to convince the Panthers not to franchise tag him by saying he would only be willing to a trade to teams that we definitely would not deal with.

This is all gamesmanship.....tag his ass and let this play out.

:iamwithstupid: If he really wants out it will be on our terms. You this is the most active I've seen Peppers since 03. I mistook him for Chad Johnson there for a sec.

I don't think it makes us look retarded. I think it makes us look like we are done with trying to coax Pep into his potential and really do not have the time to convince somebody else that they might be able to better thatn we have.

Is all this crazy talk stemming from greed or what. He is never gonna get you a first round pick. NEVER.

How blind are you guys? When all factors surrounding peps career are looked at. he is a risk for a long term deal.

good riddance

Getting a first round pick for Pep may be 50/50, but I'd rather get something for Peppers than nothing just to prove a point. If there's a market for him, as Fiz said earlier, it would be foolish for us not to explore compensation for letting one of our best defensive players defect. I'd rather tag him for a year and keep him on the team as opposed to letting him walk without getting something for him. That way, we at least have time to explore other options (i.e. trading him for another player).
