-1st-

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

This mamma jamma is an absolute monster that I want on this team for the next 10 years.

-3rd-

Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa

I really hate not taking Ellis, but Dareus effectively makes our DT situation a ton better. Additionally, I like Landri and we'll see what we can get in the FA when that rolls around. Now, I want Clausen to get a second shot, and possibly Moore, but if they don't, I'd be very comfortable with throwing a pro-style QB to the wolves mid-season. Look at Colt McCoy, The Golden Calf of Bristol, hell even Joe Webb. Let's give it a shot with Stanzi and see if it works out. He's a proven winner, a leader imo, has got a strong arm and I think he would overall fit well with our new system. If he pans out we're geniuses and have found a stud for years to come. If not, we won't be locked down with some #1 overall QB from this draft and next year we can possibly get Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, or Cousins.

-3rd-

Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian

This guy is rising on boards and has been performing really well...apparently having a tremendous pro-day (per WalterFootball & NFL draft scout). I love Gettis and LaFell but with Smith getting old we need as many playmakers as we can on offense to help us out. Let's just stack it up and try to make Chud's squad a juggernaut.

-4th-

Shareece Wright, CB, USC

This is an interesting prospect for me. Prince, Smith, & of course Peterson are all great players going near the top of the draft no doubt. There's a great group below them including Curtis Brown, Aaron Williams, Harris, Davon House, etc. If one of them doesn't fall in position for our 3rd rounder, I would wait on a CB till here. Great value, gifted multi-positional type player. Was one of the best defensive players last year for USC and he apparently has a strong mental grasp of the game and has shown commitment to improve in the film room.

-5th-

Julius Thomas, TE, Portland State

Former Basketball player, has been garnering a large amount of praise for his athleticism and I see him as a perfect TE for Chud to groom. He could be awesome especially with our new staff.

-6th-

Darius Morris, OT/G, Temple

Its hard to know where Morris may fall, somewhere between rounds 5 and 6 is my guess and we're sitting ok at the top of the 6th. Lets go get a versatile backup for our line who adds great depth and can play tackle & guard rather well.

end note*

I would absolutely love to try to trade into the 2nd to target Curtis Brown and/or Jonathan Baldwin (if he falls)...but I'll save them for a trade-induced mock.

Something to add about Edmund Gates is his breakaway speed would be a great compliment to LaFell and Gettis' playing styles. Also with Cam's huge arm, this kid could be a better non-idiotic version of a Donte Stallworth. Great opportunity to get a versatile WR group.

Holy poo he's got some skinny little chicken legs! The play at 4:40 was pretty badass.

He doesn't seem to run much of the route tree. Seemed like 90% of his catches were go-routes where he just outran his opponent (won't work quite as well in the NFL) or smoke routes.

On a side note, it'd be funny if we gave Rivera his own receiving Gates to work with.

I like everything but the first.

I intentionally did not include any trade guesses in here, but I do feel trading back to regain a second could be a decent option like I've mentioned on the main board.

My ideal trade scenario would be: Drafting Dareus, Peterson, or Green, then picking Curtis Brown-CB-Texas or Colin Kaepernick-QB-Nevada with a newly acquired top 2nd pick. Then I'd replace the Wright pick with that Nebraska K Henery.

So essentially my trade involved mock with multiple choices:

Trade: Panthers get Bengals 1st and 2nd round picks, Bengals receive 1st overall

1st: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia or Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

2nd: Ben Ijalana, OT/G, Villanova or Andy Dalton, QB, TCU

3rd: Kendrick Ellis, DT, Hampton or Curtis Brown, CB, Texas

3rd: Edmund Gates, WR, AC or Sione Fua, DT, Stanford

4th: Shareece Wright, CB, USC

5th: Julius Thomas, TE, Portland St.

6th: Darius Morris, OT/G, Temple

Ijalana is said to carry a first round grade now after his pro day, though he may slip. I really have zero interest in Dalton or any QB this season.

I'd rather patch DT and CB early if OL isn't available.

This may be surprising...but the position I am beginning to want patching up first is actually OL ahead of the DL. This may sound crazy but we need both a RG starter and a flex T/G player for depth. If we are throwing a rookie, Clausen, or some fragile vet like Bulger/Volek in next year, the first and foremost need is protection.

Also...yeah, its pretty easy to look past this QB class...I agree its just not that special. I just feel that we may be getting a QB somehow in this draft whether we want it to happen or not. If so, my choices are either just take Newton #1 and hope for the best or we're trading down and Kaep/Dalton/Stanzi are the only ones that seem to fit in our new Coryell-esque system. So its not that I actually want these guys, but if we are going QB in this draft, they're my top choices.

Truthfully, who I want for QB lies within the potentially awesome 2012 class with Jones, Luck, Barkley, & Cousins. I am really interested to watch what Landry does next season b/c I think he could be better than Bradford.

I am beginning to see where you're coming from for QB. Its gonna take a some time to transition our players from the Fox era into Rivera's system fully and we'll most likely be starting some vet next year anyway. So, I do think it makes sense to just keep Clausen, Moore, ****** up Bulger, see how it goes and if Clausen is doing better and give him some playing time down the stretch. If its looking gloomy, I think we'll be in great position to draft either Jones or Cousins (pending any Locker-esque disaster season).

would not want Dalton in the second....I'd rather not trade back and take Newton in the first

But like I said, I am assuming to a degree we are taking a QB. I don't necessarily want one this year, but Dalton/Kaep/Stanzi are the only ones other than Cam that fit with us beyond the 1st...so it makes sense if we don't go Cam and our coaches are still wanting a QB to look at Dalton at the very least.

Like I said, if we keep the pick, I'm all for Newton. That's it really...and if we trade back, its Peterson, Green, or Dareus in my book.

Also, I just wanted to re-express my opinion that Curtis Brown is gonna be a great NFL player.
