guarantee the panthers WILL DRAFT Cam Newton

Recommended Posts

Despite what some on here may think, many Panther fans will believe in the hype. It's not like the majority of our fan base are these well read researchers that hang out on forums and such. They probably get all their information via word of mouth, or by tv, such as espn.. espn has been hyping the hell out of Newton.

So assuming most fans are sheep that follow hype, I can definitely see them being upset or pissed if Newton is not selected #1 overall by the Panthers.

I cant be the only one that thinks this is the stupidest thing ever. Ticket sales and interest are the only thing thats important. If no one in this area is interested you dont sell tickets then you dont generate money. Look at the Bobcats for an example. Drafting someone like Cam is a guaranteed boost in tickets sales and interest

What he said was that winning would put people in the stands more than anything, so you go with the player that you think will make your team a winner and have the biggest impact on it's success.

Hope for now and the future may be poo-poo'ed by some, but, it does keep a lot PSL holders interested and paying.

...and in case Mr. Scott and others don't realize it, it is the PSL holders that keep the Panthers playing in Charlotte, particularly in this economy, and our having to pay regardless of the product on the field is the reason those who can't afford tickets, get to see the team on TV, in the comfort of their living rooms, for free.

If anyone thinks that the level of frustration with those PSL holders isn't high, they are sadly mistaken...and if there are those who think we just go to be 'seen', well they are wrong there too. We go for the football and what we have seen the past several years on the field is far from it.

One thing is certain, as a PSL Holder, I have no more interest in watching a pro team that can't get a touchdown much less a first down. This QB abyss has been in the making for any number of years. It has hit bottom now. Even long time PSL holders, from the beginning, are starting to leave the stadium in droves and if Siefert was ineffective, Fox was beyond boring and the last 2 years, near comatose. I also make sure those sentiments are known in the 2-3 questionnaires I get from the team each year.

The answer to the QB problem of the Panthers is not on the roster. It is not in free agency either and that is MHO.

I saw enough at the stadium last year to realize the truth of it and for that reason, though I have as much concern about Newton as anyone else, I'm all for taking a chance on that athletic ability and the kid's desire to be something. Others may disagree, and that's what forums are all about.

All I know is that I won't be so willing to part with my $4200 for tickets alone this year and into the future unless the Panthers take a chance to fix the 32nd offense in the league. Without a QB a pro team is nothing, absolutely nothing.

Is the safe pick a DT, sure it is, so, great, we will be maybe 4-12 vs. 2-14. The reality is, to me, no amount of coaching is going to make Moore better under pressure or Clausen be something he isn't. Forget about Tony Pike, another wasted draft pick by Hurney and company.

Newton is a great athlete, can he be a great pro QB, or a great leader, or the face of the franchise, don't know, just like we don't know about any of them. At some point, a chance must be taken and that chance is now.

I believe that draft party is no coincidence either. For as much as we can talk about 'winning' curing all, it is also about hope and ticket sells, and sponsors paying more etc. Winning one season is not enough. Winning every other season is not enough either. If this team wants fans, it needs to be a consistent winner for a period of time and that starts with a QB. Take Manning from Indy, what are they? Take Brees from NO, what are they? They are below average teams and that is what the Panthers are now.

Good post. I think the days of "we should just be thankful to have a team and have JR as our owner" are over. Last year was the straw that broke the camel's back. The Panthers have to EARN people's dollars and trust, and get off this "you owe us" mentality. The PSL system has spoiled some of us to the point we think we can put anything out there and fans should support it. LOL. That arrogance is a big reason why we're so irrelevant and so many people take an apathetic approach to us locally. Newt will at least generate a buzz and interest in this team, our current QBs cant. Help make this football team "cool" again rather than being the redhead stepchild of the sports scene here.

FWIW When you buy PSL's you do not buy a winning record.

You buy the right to get your tickets (and extras's) before everyone else along with other perks.

To say "I pay I want wins!" is somewhat foolish, as winning isn't part of the purchase. Getting the seats are.

PSL'ers have rights to many props, paying for the stadium, helping Richardson make the Panthers Exist, and Stability. But having PSL's doesn't make the wins any better or the loses any worse.

I almost always agree with you Kurb; but, I didn't buy tickets looking for a guaranteed winner.

I did buy tickets expecting to see a professional team, to see the sport of football played at it's highest level, and that is my only expecation for the money I plunk down every year and I'm not getting that.

If the Panthers want to continue to get my money and others, they need to put a team on the field that looks professional. This team is not even close to that standard and it starts at a detoriating QB postion for at least the past 5 years and we all know it. Nothing was done about it, nothing. Here we are.

Having said that, if they make moves this year to try and improve the QB position, I'll keep my PSLs and if not, I'm letting them go after this year, no one is interested in buying them for what I paid for them.

...that is, you know, unless some of the people on here would like to show the love in their words with $$s....just saying.

The more I think about it, I'm beginning to think that taking a shot at drafting Cam Newton might be worth it.

Think about it... this is possibly the weakest draft in a decade. Nobody jumps off the page and demands attention, except Cam Newton. He plays an exciting brand of football, and has a larger than life personality. When has Carolina ever had that, other than Smitty? (And most times, he's just pissy )

Cam would sell tickets, and has tremendous upside.

He could be a bust. No doubt about it. But I think that it would hurt a whole hell of a lot less to draft Newton and have him bust (with the rookie cap) than it would be to NOT take him, and watch him prove all the doubters wrong. He CAN'T be worse than Jimmy... hell, at least Cam can run! And whatever, if Cam sucks, I'm sure there are other suckers out there who would take him off our hands because of his potential. We are gonna suck again without a QB... I'd rather take a shot at being good than KNOWING what I'm gonna get with Jimmy.

Actually I do. I get the Sunday Ticket to watch Panther games every Sunday here in PA. :biggrin5:

No reason to get PSL when I'm how far away.

How can you sell more tickets than are available?

We've been selling the most tickets possible for a while now.

Also comparing selling out for 41 games is different than selling out 8. We sold out every game at 2-14, with any marginal improvement there will again be no problem selling out year in and year out, Cam Newton or not.
