Throwing Sh*t at the Wall (WR+QB)

Green becomes our new #1, Smitty begins moving into Phroel territory (from a teammate standpoint, I know they are way different players), we have in my opinion a Marvin Austin type in Gettis possibly and a great clutch catcher and occasional dropper in LaFell, much like young Moose.

I have a feeling Marvin Austin has hands of stone and probably doesn't get good separation.

I assume you mean Marvin Harrison? :)

Guess what? This ain't no Cam Newton thread!!

I'm gonna throw out one of those trade down scenarios because we can possibly get two offensive playmakers near the top of the first 2 rounds to elevate and redefine our team: AJ Green and Colin Kaepernick

Basically trade with either Buffalo or Cincy and nab their 2nd rounder

Now yeah, its all just wishful thinking in the end, but let me have some fun with this. Our Super Bowl team had a crop of receivers, and it seems people our satisfied with the Smitty/Gettis/LaFell/Armanti setup.

I don't get this especially considering the history of the sophomore slump not only in general at WR in the NFL, but within our own history. Green becomes our new #1, Smitty begins moving into Phroel territory (from a teammate standpoint, I know they are way different players), we have in my opinion a Marvin Austin type in Gettis possibly and a great clutch catcher and occasional dropper in LaFell, much like young Moose.

Our expectations for our group of sophomore receivers who have a bunch of potential may be blinding the need for a stud #1 receiver. Green is just fantastic, explosive and a game changer type player. When it comes down to it, he elevates our offense the most out of any character in this draft...maybe even in the long term imo.

Now on to the 2nd: Kaepernick is no doubt a project, but not long term imo depending on how we use him year one. I would really like to see us use him similar to how we could use Cam in a first year if we end up drafting him first. Basically, have the vet start and as the season progresses use the young guy on certain play types, similar to The Golden Calf of Bristol/Orton. With this, he becomes more acclimated to the offense at a steady pace, he'll have time to really get a strong throwing motion down, and adjust to the speed of the NFL. Plus, we're using him in a smart way for developing a QB in this day and age. Thinkin people either assume a guy is a long term project or instant success...nope. I love the one year phase in strategy wayyy more than the one year sit out and learn on the sidelines.

Kaepernick is another dynamic and explosive player with a huge arm (He could possibly have the best arm in the draft)

I just see us benefiting greatly from a WR + QB scenario, then DT (Don't forget how deep this draft is at DT...Fua, Powe, Ellis). We need offense when it comes down to really wanting to keep up with the Falcons, Saints, and Bucs. We had a strong defense last year that held their own in a throwaway season even with a mediocre line plus Johnson. I absolutely think Peterson is gonna be a star but Green is his equivalent to added talent on the side of the ball we need help at most. That is why I say Green > Peterson from our perspective and if we trade out of the first pick, its the way to go.

Now commence with the ripping of my idea... :)

I do not understand the mentality of being dissatisfied with what we have now, yet being satisfied with another young 2nd or 3rd round QB. To bring in more youth is ridiculous unless that youth has some serious upside.

I'm not really on the Newton bandwagon but if we want a QB in this draft it should be him or whoever they think is best. If we don't we should sign a legit FA, see if Jimmy develops, and wait until next year.

For the fanbase, they will buy Newton jerseys and be patient with him. Alambama fans will pay more attention to us, Every success he has people will get in a circle jerk to discuss. Kaepernick will not sell jerseys, and people will doubt him before he even steps on the field.

Also it's a huge gamble to trade down hoping to get a QB, any picks we gained by trading with a team would be lost when we would have to trade back up to make sure we got him. In terms of draft value we could very well be in the hole.

All those could be avoided if this 2nd/3rd round QB starts winning, but that's a big IF. It's also a an even bigger if that this 2nd day QB would do better than Newton in the same scenario.

"Go big or go home" is a silly phrase that I hate hearing but it makes a lot of sense in this situation.

I agree and its why Cam Newton is my only choice for us at number one. If we trade out though, yeah we're possibly in this 2-3rd round QB situation where it makes sense to get a DT, OG, or a CB rather than a QB. You're correct, these are the rounds only a few great QBs have emerged from in the drafts history. You make sense but again I'm just trying to throw names out there to diversify the conversation up in this joint. ;)

Kaepernick is no doubt a phase-in type who will need to be taught up, but he's a top talent that's potentially available if we somehow manage to get a top-2nd round pick back. Dalton & Stanzi could fit our offense well also.

The go big or go home mentality is pretty much where I'm at if we keep #1; this is simply my next level of consideration in the process.

lol i begrudgingly have mocked Newton too. If we actually draft him I will hop on the bandwagon.
